ive noticed that 2-3 irons are a thing of the past now seems like everyone is using hybrids who out there like me are still being stubborn and using a 3 iron

Posted
still using a 3-iron here. Then again, I haven't been playing much since the hybrid revolution took off so I haven't had any need to change. And as of late, I've been hitting my 3 better than I ever have so, in that respect, I don't have any reason to change either.

I'd say this is a good rule of thumb for handicaps and hybrids
25+ 3H, 4H, 5H, 6H
15-25 replace the 6H with an iron
10-15 replace the 5H with an iron
5-10 replace the 4H with an iron
5 and under----irons only on windy days. Maybe a 3H on long courses or courses with long par 3s
then there are those that love hybrids no matter the handicap and some really good players don't carry any hybrids.

im currently carry no hybrids, that will change soon, when i get my new irons and woods. I plan on using a 17* 2H and then using a 3-pw iron set up. I love the feel irons give, and i personally think hitting and controling 3 irons are easier than 3 hybrids.

I have a 2, 3 and 4 hybrid. If it's windy, I take out the 4H and put in the 4 iron to keep it lower.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

i carry a 2hybrid. i also carry a 5wood depending on the course the 2hybrid comes out in place of the 5wood. i dont like to carry a 3iron, even a 4iron for that matter. i hit my 5iron straight as an arrow and carry it about 215. i carry the 4iron about 225 but im inconsistent with it, the 3iron is just not a club for me. i find with my hybrid i get about 235yards or so, but i reach for my 5iron because im alot more consistent with it. the bottom line it doesnt matter what revolution sweeps through golf, its the game that works for you.

my new set started at a 4 iron. So I got the 3 hybrid 20 degree. I like it!! good out of the rough and bad spots as well as giving me a forgiving shot. How can you go wrong?

I find my 4H is great as a "Texas" wedge. I use it as such almost all the time if there is no hazard between my ball and the pin from 6 yards to 25 yards off the green (if the ground is dry, no thick rough to stop the ball, etc. I find it particularly useful to elevated greens with the pin tucked close to the front. This takes practice, just like putting, but once you get the hang of it, much more accurate that wedge shot.

I have holed out three 15-30 yard "Texas" wedge shots with my 4H in the last 9 months.

I resisted hybrids for a while, but now carry a 2H, 4H and 5H. I had carried a 3H for a while, but found the 2H was a better club. They are just more versatile and easier to hit than long irons. The 5I still goes in the bag on certain day, but for the last 6 months or so this has been my bag configuration. For those still carrying 3 and 4 irons, I really think they would be surprised if they gave hybrids a chance. For better players not all hybrids are the right fit, but there are hybrids for good players that make most shots easier.

At the moment I carry a 2 and 3 hybrid. As I progress with hitting a 3 wood off the deck the need for the 2 will probably decrease.

I am at the point where I probably own too many clubs and swap clubs in and out of my bag just to make the course different. I do see myself carrying just one hybrid soon.

I carry a 3 and a 4 hybrid......replacing my 2 iron and 4 iron. I still keep the 3 iron as it's easier to work than a hybrid and gives me some flighting options that I don't get with the hybrids.

Luv them hybrids though!

I own 17°, 20°, 24° & 27° hybrids but am taking the 27° out of the bag for a while.
I was hybrid-less until last season but was struggling with my longer irons (3-5) and decided to buy a hybrid....ended up falling in love with them after seeing how easy they are to hit and how soft they land...and the spending commenced. I've since purchased new irons (4-PW) and am hoping to at least carry the 5-PW....so we'll see how that goes.

I've got one. A 21 degree 3 iron equivalent. It's an older model. A Cleveland QuadPro.

I like it a great deal. I can hit a 3 iron OK, but i hit this better, i hit it straighter and more consistently. I hit this much better than "OK". But, for some reason, i've ALWAYS been able to hit the 4 and 5 irons well. (Even when i was a kid.) So, i don't feel a need to any more lofted hybrids.

I have thought seriously though, about getting an 18 degree and getting rid of my 5 wood. Still thinking about that.
