Okay, I've tried posting this in the equipment forum before but no one responded to it. I'll provide as much detail as possible and I need you guys to help me figure it out.

My pitching wedge has lost between 15-20 yds since I bought my standard set of Titleist 755 irons. In accordance with this, just about every club has lost me between 10-20 yds compared to my previous set.

My ball flight with the 755 irons has been very high and very short compared to my 690cb's (good amount of backspin)

So here's the details:

I took both clubs too the range right dead center in front of the 100 yd marker. The 690CB pitching wedge w/ a DG S300 shaft, and a 48* loft on it and my 755 PW with Titleist Tri Spec R flex shaft and a 47* degree loft on it. Both clubs are forged as well.

Both of these clubs have a very similar head profile with mild cavity back, one has the dampening chip but I don't think that's the issue.

vs

After 10 test swings with each club, I was averaging about 10 to 15 yds longer per shot with the 690cb. The ball flight with the stiff 690CB was actually lower. My swing speed is only about 91-93 depending.

So how is it that the 755's are hindering my distance by such a significant amount compared to my ol trusty 690 cbs, consider a degree of difference in loft?

Is it just the Tri Spec shafts? I don't think I need Stiff flex shafts based on my swing speed, but it's becoming a big problem as I'm not trusting my new irons and clubbing down far too often.

Thats odd. The heads are slighter larger on the 755's, so perhaps when coupled with the different shafts the swingweights are different.. Check their website and see what the specs say.

Already did. The 690cb club is a bit heavier, but as far as the specs are concerned, the club I'm hitting higher and shorter is actually lofted a degree lower (which makes no sense)

Unless of course the Tri Spec shafts are just too whippy or something else like the kickpoint. It's killing me, almost to the point where I might reshaft just my PW with an DG S300 so I can hit them both with the same shaft. That would be the only way to really confirm anything.

Could be the kick. But I wish i had a better awnser for you.

The 690's are probably going lower due to the stiff shaft in them. The DG S300 shaft is designed to give a lower ball flight. I don't know much about the Tri spec shafts or why there is such a distance gap, your idea about reshafting with a DG to compare them both is a good one though.

The shaft certainly has a lot to do with it. That one degree of loft is insignificant if the "R" flex has a higher launch. Also the weighting in the clubhead itself is crucial. If some of the weight has been moved lower in the 755, it will naturally launch the ball higher with more back spin and correspondingly shorter carry. Looking at those photos it appears that the 755 has a wider sole (I realize that I'm looking at a 7I vs. a 2I). The addition of the dampening chip may also have allowed them to move some weight lower.

Much of the difference in ball trajectory can be traced directly to the shaft. You just don't get the same kick from the stiff shaft (especially with your swing speed), and that translates to the face being flatter at impact. That would naturally set the ball on a lower flight. One question I'd ask is not the total difference in distance, but what is the difference in carry between the 2 clubs?

Couple of questions.....

How far are you actually hitting each? I assume that the 91-93 mph swing speed is for your driver, not the PW's, right? What caused you to move from the S300 to the regular flex shafts?

Shaft: 80%
Lower CoG in Clubhead: 19%
Difference in Loft: 1%

That's about how I'd guess it works out. In other words, it's the shaft.

Couple of questions.....

I'm hitting the 690 roughly 110-115 and the 755 about 90-95.

The 690cbs were inherited and the 755 were what I was fitted to. I don't like the tri specs cause it seems like all my iron shots balloon on me.

Yeah isn't the tri spec a heavy shaft? could it be slightly lowering your swing speed?

Actually, it is a much thinner shaft than the DG S300, atleast from what I can tell. The 690cb PW with the S300 is considerably heavier feeling than my 755 PW.

I'm going to have a new shaft put on the PW and see what happens. Not likely that it'll have any negative effects.

Well you kindof answered your own question. It's definately the shaft, you said all the clubs balloon on you, that causes your distance loss.
