i am beginning to hit the ball farther, with the muscles i got working out this winter, and i decided that i need a 3 wood. I have $250-275 of spending money, but am also buying a hybrid. Any suggestions on any good, cheap fariway woods? no offset would be preferred, and i want a face that is not too deep.

Where I live (Chicagoland) there are Golf Stores that sell slightly used clubs. Remember, the economy is in the dumps, maybe you can negoiate a deal. Lastly, you can't 'buy a game', do you re-grip your clubs every year, are your spikes in good shape? Concentrate on some good fundemantals .. and you'll rock and roll. ô¿ô

Eventually, I'll get the hint and stop advertising, which is against the rules.

Check out the sonartec GS Tours.. they come in 13, 14, 15 degree, pretty workable, and the stock shaft is not bad. they had them at golf galaxy for 50 bucks brand new not long ago..

Well, there are really no stores like that in the ville. And my fundamentals are ovbiously ok, because i am a 2 or so HI. And i just replaced the spikes on my golf shoes. The only thing i notices is that i am hitting the ball 15+ yards further off the tee and with irons since i started to work out. its actually something that i need for next season in the tournaments i will be playing in because there is too big of a gap in btween my 5 wood and driver. Thanks for those uggestions, which are always good to keep in mind.

I love the old Callaway Steelheads, and at least a couple of guys still use them on tour (I've read.) I've used Callaway Pre-Owned, an internet site, and have had great service. The prices for pre-owned older woods is pretty reasonable, and there is usually a wide selection of shafts and models.

I have no affilation with Callaway, other than two of my woods are Steelheads. Their shipping is usually very quick.

Ebay has a million options....Go to your local course and demo some fairway woods and hybrids then write down what they are and go hunting for them on ebay, callawaypreowned.com and other stores that is your best bet....Make sure you hit the clubs first!

+1 on the burner, by burner I mean the 07 burner, the tour burner woods are pretty crappy, but since you are a 2 hadicap so you might want to get it in the TP version (the same club paddy used to hit that shot at the british open).

Dude, that's a good budget you've got there, particularly if you don't mind used. (which you shouldn't. If you're patient, keep your eyes on ebay.) I've always been a Callaway guy when it comes to fairway woods. I've had them in my bag for years and years. And, the first hybrid I introduced to my bag was the FT Hybrid I have listed in my signature. I kill the thing. KILL it. It is so pretty looking and feels so great

RC mentioned the Callaway Steelheads. Those things are extremely fantastic. I wouldn't mind putting an old Callaway Warbird back in my bag. I actually used to play this same 11* [in the link I included] back in the day. Kinda like a 2 wood, but so easy to hit!

I doubt you will be able to beat the price of the MacGregor NVG2 3w. Comes in either 12.5* or 15*. Its the easiest hitting 3w I've ever hit. The only thing I didn't like about it was the OEM shaft. But thats not unusual for me. I change out almost all of the OEM graphite shafts.
