i was working at the course when some companys outting was scheduled... it was like a treasure hunt that day... guess the catering an open bar worked like a charm... guys were leaving full sleeves of shiny new balls...cigars still in the wrappers... brush tees... towels... headcovers... unopened beers... ball caps... wallets...

needless to say... the important stuff was returned... all the rest was a free for all for the staff

I found a wallet stuffed with cash once that I imediately turned in, I dropped everything and drove back to the club house because Im sure that guy was going to freak out when it went missing. Ive found wedges on the greens that I have always turned in.

I've found a sand wedge, and my friend (who said he'd turn it in) kept it and sold it. And I've found an Ignite headcover which I just left since it was starting to rot away. As for losing anything, I left my old 54 at a course. Went back in a couple days after I realized I left it, and nobody turned it in.

a friend of mine, a first-time golfer even, found a 4- or 5-iron on the course. he was all excited and was like "IT'S MINE NOW!" i was like, well... we really should turn that into the clubhouse. someone's going to miss that.

he never did it in, though. and i think he's played golf all of once since then. he's a great guy otherwise, but that's a pretty irritating black mark against him there.

the only things i've lost on a course have been a putter cover, which i didn't really care very much about anyway, and then my 5-wood cover, which thankfully someone did turn in and i got back.

I once found a childrens 5 iron on the fringe of the 17th at my home course. It was dusk, no group ahead of me and the pro shop had closed for the evening. I put it in my bag with thoughts of giving it to the pro shop in the next day or so when I returned. The thing was so short it fell down inside my bag and I forgot all about the darn thing until months later I found it when cleaning out my bag.

I once also found a bowl/pot pipe near the 5th green. Didn't keep that one.

I have found tons of balls. My father-in-law left a wedge on the fringe, and the group behind us brought it back. I keep close track of my clubs. Dont have the money to buy new ones.

I worked at three courses over the last 3 years and have found countless stuff, some pretty sweet towels, head covers, rangefinders, etc, But I would hate to lose that stuff, so I always bring into the shop and let people claim it.

But two random finds were : panties just outside a bathroom off one of the tee box, they were bright in color, and looked very new, but I was not about to touch them, even with a club.
I also found a little silver case when I was playing a round, opened it up, and found 6 pre-rolled joints in it. And although I like to smoke a bit, I would never smoke anything that I didnt know where it came from, so I put the joints in a baggie, and put them back on the tee box, and kept the sweet silver case they were in!

Whats in the bag?

I was on the 12th hole..pulled up in the cart...bit of a wait at the tee box...I found a vintage coke can on the ball washer...noticed the top comes off...and lo and behold there was about a quarter ounce of weed in it plus a hand made wooden weed grinder...needless to say...by the 13th hole...the tee box wait didn't bother me anymore

I nominate this for post of the day!

The only thing I do differently in this case (and it has happened, just not on a golf course) is to briefly count the money and look for a license. I'll jot all that info down and then turn it into the proshop. I'll casually let them know in the shop how much money was in the wallet so that they know that I know how much is there. I'll then try to contact the owner of the wallet myself and let them know I found it and what I did with it. Far too often wallets get turned in but when it gets back to the rightful owner all the cash has disappeared along the way.

just yesterday found a brand new (still had stickers on it) Wilson Harmonizer 55º wedge on the 17th hole. after i finished 18 i took it to the proshop and turned it in. as i was getting in my car to leave, & just by chance i asked a guy who was also getting in his car near me if he left a wedge on the course and he checked his bag and sure enough it was his.

This one might seem rather unbelieveable but while playing at a private club, sitting out in the sun on a 167 yd downhill par 3 tee box, was a 400+ dollar Nikon laser rangefinder.

I moved it out of the way, and before I could swing the group ahead of me came hauling ass up in their cart.

I asked if they lost a rangefinder and the guy was so grateful I had it, he gave me 10 dollars. I was like "uh...I was gonna give it to the Marshall next time I see him, dude.."

This is slightly off subject.. but I just gotta share...

Last year we were playing in a small tournament. It was quite the range of golfers.. several who couldn't break 100. No big deal... just illustrating that some people didn't take it too seriously. The tournament rule was that you can't make worse than double par on any hole.

Well, one guy took the lack of seriousness to an extreme.. and of course he happened to be in my foursome. On the second hole, he hits his second shot in the sand... whacks at it.. and can't get it out. Picks it up and throws it out. Makes the putt for a 5! Wrong.. we give him a double par.

On the third hole he hits his ball in the sand and says "im not even going to fool with this" and throws it out of the sand without even trying to hit it out. We politely tell the guy if he doesn't want to play by the rules he's welcome to tag along but can't really turn in a legitimate scorecard. He doesn't seem to care and is fine just tagging along.

Long story short, this guy breaks every rule known to man in the following holes.. and continues to get extremely ticked off. He finally hits a really sorry shot with his hybrid.. turns around.. and throws it back down the fairway towards the tee box. He says "leave it there. im going home" and starts to unstrap his bag and walk off.

The group behind us pulls up to the tee box.. and spots the club laying in front of the tee. The guy walks out there, picks it up, and yells "hey.. one of you forget a club?"

The guy in our group yells "YEAH! it sucks! it's a piece of @#$! but it's mine! leave it alone!!" Then he walks off the course.. actually gets in his car and drives off.. was pretty freaking funny...

After we finished our round the club was sitting in the clubhouse where somebody turned it in.. it was still there several days later..

I lost my pocket pc twice on the course, but always got it back. The only thing i lost and never got back where my sunglasses. Beside that, i probably forget as many wedges as i find.

Never really found something special on the course though. But our greenkeeper once found a pair of womans panties on the 14th green one morning

I have found a bunch of stuff over the years, clubs, towels, headcovers, wallets, even a hotdog without a bun!

I found a wallet about 18 months ago and it was stuffed with cash, reckon about $300. Checked the id and the guy was in the military. It was in the cart and I hadn't started my round yet so turned it in to the pro shop and went on my way. Anyway I was playing the 2nd or 3rd hole when this huge guy was approaching me on a cart. I'm standing there going like wtf is going on here, turned out it was the guy who's wallet I had just turned in. He said he was just starting some leave and was delighted he didn't have to deal with the banks to get new cards, etc and was he heading directly to the bar to spend some of his cash. He was obviously very grateful but I appreciated the fact that he came out to find me on the course to thank me himself
