Just curious to see how people filled their bag in order to gain another wedge.

5 wood

Consistancy isn't my strong suit and in the end I was hitting my 5w about as well as my 3w. Clean contact with my 5w off the deck would go about 225yds. I get 230-240yds (240 on a great hit, usually more like 230) with the 3w. I also didn't see any need for using the 5w off the tee. Again the 3w is the club I'd reach for if I needed distance off the tee when the driver would be too much. I use my 3h (215yds) to fill the gap between the 3w and the 4i (200yds). I do use all four of my wedges. I know my distances on all of them for full swings, and I usually stick with my PW for chipping and my LW for pitching.

Driver, 1i Hybrid-15 degree or weak 15 degree 3-wood, 3 iron, 5,6,7,8,9,P, 50, 54, 58, 62 wedges would be my ideal set. I dont have it yet, but I would play that combo forever. The 58 and 62 I would snag in a dynamic sole grind too

I ditched the 5 wood and 3 iron in favor of a 19º hybrid, so I can carry 50º GW, 54º SW and 58º LW.
Now I´m replacing the 3 wood for a new 4 wood, easier to hit, as I use mainly driver always from the tee....

2 or 3 iron. I only have two woods so I have either the 2 or 3 in the bag (depending on the course) and leave the other in the car. I could also do without the 9-iron if I felt I would need the long irons.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

For most I think it tends to be 5-wood, 3-iron or 4-iron.

I took out the 4-iron because I was good with my distance gap between 3-iron and 5-iron and I like the utility of my 5-wood, especially if I miss the fairway.

Additionally, the lofts on my iron set is 3I-4I 3-degrees, and 4I to 5I 3-degrees so now I have 3I-5I 6-degrees then 4-degrees throughout the rest of the iron set. Don't misunderstand this that I made the decision based on club loft though, it just happened that the distances and the club loft had correlation for my swing.

I don't know which club I took out of my bag for 4th wedge, but if I pulled one now I'd probably add the 5 iron back into bag. I've carried 4 wedges for so long now I'm really not sure what I originally took out.

I'm considering new irons with weaker lofts (Mizuno MP-52). The PW is 47*, so I would probably go 47*, 52/53* and 58* and then add 5 iron back into the bag.

I gave up my 5 wood/3 Iron. I have a 4 Hybrid in there that kind of acts as my 5 wood. But having 4 wedges is the only way to go for my game, especially on the courses that I play.

I didn't! The PW (48°), 52°, 56° is good for me and I like having my 2-iron for narrow tee shots.

I carry 5 wedges. To make room I replaced the 15* & 19* woods with a 17* wood. My 23* 4 hybrid is almost as long as a 7 wood so it replaces my 4 and 3 iron. The way I play the top of the set, 6* between the two clubs is not too much for me.

5 wedges.....cool.

It is intresting to me that many guys are gaming 4 and even 5 wedges now.....but ten years ago it was PW & SW mostly. I suspect many are honing in their short games and being able to take full swings from varying distances less than 100 yds. Cool trend.

I didn't give up anything. I've never had a hybrid, 5 wood, 7 wood, or anything else that would have taken that 14th spot. I've been playing four wedges since the day I added the 14th club.

5 wood, which sucks because I love it. But I had too much gap between my 55 degree sand wedge and my 46 degree pitching, so I added a 50* Vokey gap.

    • Day 23: weird day, and only had a little bit of time. Just did mirror work again, working on where the elbow is in the downswing
    • I flipped over to this tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyone else watch? I picked it up during the golf relay event, but seeing these pros out having fun in alternative events was refreshing and entertaining. I’m sure it will be on in reruns in the next week or so, so I won’t spoil the outcome. Im curious what others thought of it. I’m recording it’s later airing to see the beginning.
    • Day 443 - 2025-12-17 Made a few swings in testing some things out at another academy. Might pop up on someone else's podcast in a few weeks.
    • Day 37 (17 Dec 25) - nine hole round with my good friend.  We got paired up with a couple of the men’s group regulars as part of their shootout.  Started off with a wonderful quad bogie and then a dbl on three to be six over thru three holes.  Game went 180° over the next five as I shot one under (including a chip in birdie on hole six and four up and down 1 putt pars) for a net finish of five over. What could have been a really tough nine became a solid finish due to staying in the moment and not checking out.  Great day in course management and keeping perspective .
    • Day 127 12-17 Backswing and flow practice. Took advantage of the 60 degeee weather(it was 20 degrees Sunday)
