It was a natural partnership with so many South Koreans playing on the LPGA Tour. One day after the 10 year agreement for TV coverage with The Golf Channel, the LPGA Tour reached a 5 year contract with JBC to televise LPGA tournaments in South Korea.

Just as important, JBC agreed to help finance 2 LPGA tournaments: it will assume sponsorship of the Phoenix event and be the sponsor of a new event in Los Angeles from 2010 through 2014. JBC will also create and operate the LPGA's website that is done in the Korean language. After the controversy last year about forcing foreign players to learn English, these agreements will help "mend fences" with the Korean golf fans and players.

With the many great stars, young and old, on the LPGA Tour, this is a golden opportunity for the Tour to increase its popularity and financial strength. Since the women and men's Tours have extended their marketing internationally, these developments are very significant.

No such thing as too much exposure. Good for the LPGA. They certainly have not been sitting back in the tough economy but have been making it happen.
In my bag:

5 Wood: Big Bertha Titanium 19*

You are right. No one has been a more vocal critic of some of the decisions and policies of Carolyn Bivens than me, but these are great contracts!

I am really excited about the return of the LPGA to Los Angeles. I've played a course where they once held an LPGA Tournament, I think - but it is in O.C.. I certainly didn't play the Trump course!

Any word on which course they will play, or when in the year it will be?

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
