My dad is a huge fan of Els and that has kinda worn off on me but I'm curious to see what you guys here think of the big man and if he can win a Major or even a few tournaments this year?

He has not started the year that well, I think he's only missed one cut he seems to be hanging around the mid 20-30s in finishing spots in this years tournaments.

Would love to see big Ern get a Major, would be quite funny seeing Trevor give him the jacket and speaking Afrikaans probably with him or another US Open..

C´mon Ern!

He's one of my favorites simply due to his swing. From what I've read, he's really struggled with his putting. If he can nail that, I think he'll contend. I hope he does.

I dont see him winning this year. His putting is pretty pathetic.

Whats in my :sunmountain: C-130 cart bag?

If Ernie can work on these two things, I think he will contend in many tournaments:

-Putting
-Maintaining wrist angle on his down swing.

Easier said than done i suppose

He's spread pretty thin - focus wise. It's just not the same as it was 10 years ago. Now he's getting older and wiser, focusing on his family, autism, wine business, golf course architecture, and several other endeavors - that he is actually a part of - in more than name only. It's hard to win majors if you aren't completely focused on that.

I agree with you on both points. His swing is so smooth, and well balanced, that it is a pleasure to watch him. His putting is horrendous, and I am not sure if he will get that corrected. I hope so, and it would be nice to see him "back near the top".

Nearly 2 1/2 years on from his '3 years to displace Tiger' comment, Els has slipped to #15.

It's been a bad year for Ernie this year. Like others have said, it's debatable if he has the focus any more. He has far more important problems in his life than the state of his golf game though. I hope he turns it around though.

anybody think big ern is poised to finally win the master's this year? he's one of my favorite players, so i really hope he can pull it off.

I think it all depends on his putting. He's playing great this week , but if his putter was working better he'd be 4-5 up on the field going into Sunday. Looks like the rest of his game is spot on. I hope to see him win a couple this year with a major thrown in somewhere.

It is great to see Ernie doing well. He makes it look so effortless. He had his putter shortened. Hopefully this will help him. I think putting is the key for him to have a big year.

I would love to see him win a Master's. He's been close, but just couldn't get it done. Not getting any younger either. Maybe this will be the year.

One and done. C'mon, guy wins for the first time in, what, eight years, and we're suddenly thinking everything will align and he'll win again? Imagine the pre-Tiger world: a guy winning more than once a year shot him to the top of the "Player of the Year" list. Ernie's struggled way too much as of late. Good for him it came together one weekend, but again? And at a major? Highly, highly doubt it.

Nothing in the swing is done at the expense of balance.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
