I was just looking through the Accenture Match Play bracket...how much fun would it be to see Woods vs McIlroy in Match 53?

There are a great many interesting matches potentially coming up. Woods vs. anyone who has ever been advertised as the next Woods will be interesting.

Just look at this bracket - Bob Harig´s pick. He predicts Woods looses against McIlroy. Any idea who Harig is?

The Jones vs. Hogan bracket has just so many opportunitys for great matches that it will be really fun to see how they develop.

Woods could meet Sabbatini (maybe he gets into trash talking mode again :) ) and in the Semifinals even Mickelson (if he ever makes it that far)

That's going a little too far. I know McIlroy is good, but betting against Woods is never a smart move.

Woods vs Mickelson would be another great one with Phil's struggles as of late (other than this last weekend).

I agree - but betting on Woods normally isnt a great option either due to the low outright quotes.

Funny thing though - if you check now, i get 6:1 for the WGC event but only 3:1 for the Masters and 3.5:1 for the British Open. 6:1 almost looks like a steal if he is in shape - lets give it a try and see what happens.

McIroy has to get past Oosthuizen first who has been playing extremely well on the European tour of late. Enjoy watching it, most of us wont get to see it down here as its only being broadcast on a commercial stations HD network!!!

McIlroy is way too skinny to satisfy Tigers appetite

The whole prospect of Woods vs. McIlroy would have everyone talking. He's largely untested on the PGA, though he just won a couple weeks ago. I would love it. I think an even better match would be Geoff Ogilvy vs. Tiger or even Camilo vs. Tiger. Both have been tested on great tracks and have won against all-star fields. Ogilvy moreso, since he has bettered Woods a couple of times, like Doral last year and at the '06 US, plus he is level-headed without being a pushover. Unfortunately, my favorite 5 are Tiger, Ogilvy, Villegas, Kim, and Sergio. Phil is going to be burned out from last week. Harrington can't play at all right now until there are 40+ mph winds again. I want Sergio to be playing his best, I hope that he picks his game up. I'd love to see Sergio playing Tiger in the final. My pick for Match 63 is either Tiger vs. Sergio or Tiger (again) vs. Anthony Kim. can't wait for the return!

Tiger vs. AK would be far more entertaining to me than Tiger v. McIlroy. So much so that, if it were to happen, I might cancel my Sunday plans and watch instead. Especially if AK just came off of beating Garcia again!

I think Rory M. might have the best chance against Eldrick. The others guys know they can't beat Tiger. I don't think Rory does.

I wouldn't mind seeing Villegas vs Kim in the finals. I think that would be a great spectacle of the future of golf.

    • Although the base rules don't make this really clear, the Player must have decided to use Unplayable Ball relief before lifting the ball.  This exact situation is discussed in the Committee Procedures section of the Rules, section 6C(8).  Section 6C addresses how to rule when a Player proceeds under a Rule that does not apply.  Note that 9.4 applies, 9.4 deals with a player moving his ball when no rule allows it.   Rule 9.4 penalizes the Player for lifting his ball when not permitted by the Rules, and requires him to replace it.  Since he dropped and played from a different place, the Wrong Place penalty applies.  As for a serious breach, that would only apply if the Wrong Place gave him a really significant advantage.  Since he could have taken Unplayable Ball relief in essentially the same spot, for just 1 penalty stroke, the Wrong Place penalty of 2 strokes is enough "punishment", there's no need to consider a DQ.

    • You can't retroactively declare such a thing. If Dave had driven up to him after he took his drop and before he hit, and the first thing he said was "I know, I took an unplayable" Dave would have said "oh, okay, please proceed" and would have made sure the drop was good and he could play on. That's not close to a serious breach considering what you said above: for one stroke he could have gotten an unimpeded swing. He paid two to get the same thing. And generally speaking, he could have hit his ball a few feet to the side with the same one stroke and had an unimpeded swing.
