Quick question:

I'm a NY State resident and trying to make reservations for this Friday. I'm doing the whole phone reservation thing but keep getting a bounce back message saying "the day you are requesting is not available." Now this is a bunch of hooey as Friday is only 4 days away and this is well with-in the 7 day reservation window.

Has anyone else had this problem or know how to get around it and actually make a reservation?

Quick question:

I'm guessing that means that all the times for that day have been booked.

enjoy it - you're up for a treat, that's the only advice I can give you
don't listen to the macho's talking about "have to play from the tips", play the tees you'd normally play and have fun - it's a beautiful place. Make sure you'll get enough clubs to the elevated greens, play longer than you'd think

So I played the Black today and what a great time I had. I have never been more nervous on the first tee then I was today. You guys that have played there know what I am talking about. There was about thirty people standing behind me and my group watching us tee off.

We ended up playing from the blues today. My friend wanted to see the whole course, which I disagreed, and we went back and forth until I finally said "**** it" and played the blues. First tee ended up striping it down the middle of the fairway about 280, so that was good.

Now Ive never played there before, so I cant compare it, but it played unbelievably difficult, as expected. If you missed the fairway, you were not advancing it on the green in regulation, not a chance. It played about 7,200 yards or so. Like Flap said, they are getting ready for the NY Open (I think thats what its called) so they have it set up pretty difficult. Quite a few holes just to carry it had to be around 280. But that wasn't the toughest part of the day. I hit the driver well today. It was the humidity, god it was hot. Anyway I shot a 92, my partner shot an 89, I had a great time, and saw a gorgeous, tough course. Actually the drive home sucked, because I get back to the town that I live in, and come to hear a tornado touched down the next town over from where I live. Roads are closed everywhere. I dont know if a tornado has ever come through Westchester.

I can attest to the rough on black..oh man.

played today and yesterday and the rought was just crazy..no one could find their balls and around the greens it was just grabbing anything not landing on the putting surface.

was 77 (78 yesterday) and deff lost alteast 3 shots just to the rough.

they had the markers up today so that was a slight help but the wind was up today so, all in all a tough tough go..good for your game tho (bad for your ego).

yeah people have all been saying how great the red is these days. deff recommended

Hi guys,

I am wondering if anyone knows just how tough it is to get a Tee Time at the Black course. We are playing this Saturday and one of the guys playing is a resident of Farmingdale but has never played the Blck course. We were able to get a tee time for Sturday through the automated system but not until 4:15 P.M. I am just wondering what our chances are in getting off in the A.M. if we show up in the morning. It seems to me that all the stuff I read on the Web is dated back really far and the tee time situation is really bad. the guy who lives in Farmingdale called this past Saturday at 9:30 A.M and asked when the next tee time is available and they said 12:10. This leads me to believe that things are not as tough as they may have been in the past. Am I wrong in thinking that? Any help would be greatly appreciated since I am flying in from Chicago Solely to play this course.

I would have your friend keep trying the automated system cause he may get lucky and get a cancellation and call at the right time. From what I understand, esp. on a Saturday its very difficult to get a time at the Black. I know they reserve some times for walkers but I dont know for how many.

For some reason I thought you had to walk on the Black?

If you are a single you got a shot if it is really hot otherwise try Tues thru Thurs.Again if you want a 4some you will have a problem. They keep 2 times per hour for walkups which usually go to the demented people who sleep in the parking lot. When it is really hot you can get a 2some about 1:00pm during the week but weekends are real tough even for walkups.

    • Yes. If you choose to take the ball out of the bunker instead of taking maximum available relief… it costs a stroke.
    • I got another one today....Number 17. Par 5 that has water left and right on the layup. I smacked a drive down the left side and got a little lazy on the layup and fanned my 6 iron. With 112 to a crowned green I got it to 3 feet and birdie!  Only 5 and 15 is left for this year!
    • Maybe I didn’t explain this properly. Back and front can be confusing.  There was no place in the bunker that didn’t have 2-3 inches of rain water in it, except for a small spot on the slope nearest the pin. If I had dropped there I would be moving 6-7 feet closer to the hole. Since my ball was just inside the bunker, farthest side from the hole, I dropped one club length backward, which brought me out of the bunker. I could not have hit from that deep of water. Are you saying I would have had to take a penalty stroke due to rain water?
    • Day 550, May 5, 2024 Got a good hour in with a typical (for me) two-stick setup: pool noodle angled in front, yardstick on the ground angled 45° behind me.
    • Day 130: Cinco de Mayo Day 7/24 of Full Speed Spectrum training. Difficult training day after struggling to certify my warmup yesterday, and today. Finished 13 mph lower than my training speed on Thursday. Hope to hit some balls today.
