At the same time, let's not let your sensitivity to whatever criticism you may have received from whomever cause you to go a little over the top with the warning.

Geesh......another moderator-wanna-be.

I didn't get "Over the top" as you called it. I simply stated facts. And FWIW...I'm not sensitive in the least. I have actually found it comical. I'm not saying that it was the case in Quinn07's post , but I have seen WAY too many times not only here but in other forums where some people just have to post SOMETHING whether they know what they're talking about or not. I've seen it cost people $$$ and lots of time. I guess that I just have no patience for folks throwing bad info around when other peoples money is involved. I wonder if you'd be so "understanding" if you had been given incorrect advice that cost you upwards of $100? That's what could possibly have happened in this instance as the OP was on the verge of changing grip sizes. Sounds to me like YOU are the one who is sensitive.

ahhhhh...... all this re gripping advice/tips...... its getting me thinking!

I'm more of a self taught and made golfer.... and I had pretty good luck up to this point in doing that.....

BUT, this is one thing I never really got into.... which is re gripping....

My hands are fairly large, and in my golf grip (I stress golf grip, not just holding it in my hand) on my current grips, my ring finger and middle finger on my left hand do wrap around the grip to the point where its slightly touching my palm... ... I use the inter lock grip and I'm assuming I have the regular standard grips that came on all of my clubs....

I guess I have never given grips much of a thought when working on my golf game or trying to improve my score in general.....

At times I will fight a slight slice and/or fade..... but thats almost always due to me not squaring my club head up upon impact.... or sometimes coming through the ball at an angle, putting a bunch of side spin on the ball and thus off to the right it goes....

I feel comfortable enough at address and in my swing.... as in my hands don't hurt, and when I hit a good shot, I do get good feedback...... but I'm just wondering if I'm missing out on improving that much more w/ different sized grips????????????????

(oh, this maddening sport!)

I don't have huge hands, but I wear XL gloves. I was wondering about going with a larger grip, so now I am going to have a Goodwill club done with a midsize, and see how it goes from there.

Good advice, and again, thanks and keep it coming!

Geesh......another moderator-wanna-be.

I think the above response pretty much eliminates any doubt I may have had. Again, back to the larger grips issue, they will feel strange if someone just sticks them in your hand, but once on the club and in use, you'll appreciate getting the proper size, assuming larger grips are the proper size.

According to the "book", that is a correct grip. The fingers should be touching the pad under the thumb, but not to the point of digging in. Again...this is what is taught. Everyone has their own preferences.

I think the above response pretty much eliminates any doubt I may have had.

Doubt? About what? That I have the guts to step in and say what needs to be said to stop an innocent party from making a mistake that will adversely effect his pocketbook and his golf game? That I said that people need to THINK before they post a recommendation? Give me a break. If you have something to say to me, then quit beating around the bush and go ahead and say it. I can't help it if you are a little too sensitive to deal with the facts. But the MAIN thing I can't understand is why you thought it was your place to criticize my communication techniques in the first place? If you had bothered to read this entire thread, you would have seen that YOU were the only one who took offense to what I said. The person I was referring to didn't have a problem with it.

God only knows that I don't have all the answers. If I did I'd be working for Hank Haney or the Harmons. But you can thumb through most any forum you can name and there are more "guesses" to questions than there are informed answers. There are many, many people on here that have as many answers as I do. Some probably have more. But when someone is asking about a change that they are IN THE PROCESS OF DOING, the answers had better be accurate and correct or they have a problem. If you have a problem with that...then you need to rethink your reason for being here in the first place.

I bought a set of Ping i5's and they came with ladies grips, I played with them for a year then tried the second biggest set of ping grips (I'm 6'2) and found that I had more control of the golf ball and my swing, but I can imagine if someone went to far to the extreme, it might be like trying to swing the wrong end of a baseball bat.

Id love to pay 100$ to regrip. When i regriped mine last season i payed 118$ what a rip off

there are always deals to be found.... $100 is too much.

The bigger grip will promote a more draw action with the club head.

yes this is incorrect as others have pointed out... But I would add that I don't think going from regular grips to midsize will do ALL THAT MUCH in regards to fading/slicing the ball...

I have been playing midsize grips for years, but for me it is mostly a feel issue... I feel like I can make a better swing with a grip that "fits" me, and I feel more connected to the club.

I'd like to know where someone is getting these bargain prices on grips.

The ones that are listed in my sig line are what I'm playing. I don't see how you can even buy the grips for less than $100 much less get them installed for that.

Again, you continue to make my point for me. Don't think it's necessary to overract to a simple mistake, or to a post suggesting that in a completely nonconfrontational way.

And you make mine for me.

I didn't "overreact". The mistake wasn't simple......unless you can burn $100 bills without caring. If you call your post telling me that I overreacted "non confrontational", I disagree. It was NONE of your business in the first place. You WERE confrontational by posting your statement about your perceived thoughts on my attitude. Honestly...this conversation isn't worth the bandwidth that it is taking up. If you don't like my comments or my overall reactions to things, then don't read my posts.....and don't make personal attacks on me anymore. Unless you call doing those things "non confrontational"........

I don't even think it took guts, just the knowledge of correcting a post that contained inaccurate info. I would hope everybody would be this responsible.

IMO, there was absolutely nothing offensive or confrontational about Hidalgo's post.

There is a big difference in stating "opinion" and "fact"…my $..02 anyway. To ensure the quality and usefulness of the content and interactions on the site, users should take it upon themselves to post factual and researched information…or note that the post is an opinion.

Well... I play the G8 Winn Rave... found them onsale for $3.50 per grip (I think) which is $45.50 for a set... had a coupon for 1/2 off labor which was normally around $3-$4 per club, so all together it was around $75.00... that was a couple seasons ago....

Last year I bought the same grips for around the same price and my local store was doing free regripping with purchase of grips in January (sort of a winter special).... so it only cost me around $50 that time. I have also done it myself which is pretty cheap as well. Just for the record I am very frugal... I always look for coupons and special rates to golf... I walk a lot... I play clearance balls and stock up... I have never spent over $160 on a driver... I buy golf shirts at the end of the season... basically I find pretty much every discount possible and try NOT to pay full price for many things. Little example... the putter in my bag was bought at a local course that had a "dollar days" special one weekend where every dollar you spent in the pro shop you could use to play golf throughout the year, but it could only count for up to half of your greens fee. I bought a putter, my wife some shoes, and a few other things that day... and since I was going to play golf anyway, they paid for themselves.

Then we are in agreement, I didn't say it was offensive and I didn't say it was confrontational (I assume we are both talking about his original post). I really didn't say much of anything, just suggesting if we are going to correct others we think about how we would like to be corrected.

Stopped at a golf shop on my way home from the course today.

I had them regrip my driver, 4 wood and 4 hybrid. I wasn't really happy with the OEM grips on them as they did feel grossly undersized.

I went with the old classic Tour Velvet midsize......although the next size up wasn't out of the question according to the staff after seeing me grip a club. I wear an XL glove.

I'll see how these go and keep experimenting. I wanted the Tour Velvet cords or NDMC but didn't want to shell out that kind of dough until I'm certain.

Letting them air out oivernight...may go shag a few balls in the morning.

i dont mind midsized grips on my wedges, but i just cant use them on my 4-PW irons and my woods/hybrid for some reason...

that's odd... I absolutely have to have the same size grips on ALL my clubs except the putter... it even bothers me to have a different type from one club to another.

    • Day 444 - 2025-12-18 Light day of hotel room work. GEARS Summit v2.0 today. Good day.
    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
