My grips are about 4 years old so i am definatley due for new grips. I play competitivley on my high school golf team so over the summer i play atleast 1-2 times a week and hit the range atleast 2 times. I am getting new grips in the spring and i think i am going to get the Tour Velvets. Are these good enough grips to hold up with how much i use them? Also will cleaning with warm water and soap about ever 5 rounds help the longevity of the grip? My new grips have no hope of being saved, worn down slick spots along with cracks and rips on the bottom of them.

While they aren't the most "techy" grip, I love the Tour Velvet. You can get them anywhere and they do last a long time, especially if you keep them clean. They are also a very resonably priced grip.

Here has been my experience with cleaning the Tour Velvets. http://www.thesandtrap.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21727 I believe they would last you a good season at least.

I'm a big fan of the Tour Velvet grip as well. I prefer the corded variety but the standard ones are very good as well.

It seems that a lot of people are making the change to one of the various multi-compound grips. I have yet to try one of those yet since I've been so happy with the Tour Velvet grips.

i play the tour velvet as well as the Karma Velvet grip. the karma velvet grip is just as nice and it's a 1/3 of the price. less then a buck a grip. since I can change my own grips, I could use new grips every 6 weeks or so for the price of the karma's. Check them out.

http://www.hirekogolf.com/hireko/ord.../299/0/0/0/0/0 also, Hireko has $8 shipping for the entire year this year. and they sell the tape for $7 for a BIG roll and like $5 something for a smaller one. in otherwords for 13 clubs you could regrip your entire bag for about $25~$30. and if you buy the big roll of tape, future regrips would be less then $20 (and that includes shipping)

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

After playing them for a long time I took a year off and played with Winn's last year, but went back to the Tour Velvets this year on all my clubs. They are no nonsense grips that are just plain good. They will last a long time if you take care of them, but I change my grips every spring whether they need them or not.

You may want to not use soap, just water when cleaning your grips. The soap leaves a residue on the grips.

I play with the new decade multi compound grips, and it is the best grip ive used so far. The grip feels like it will never ever budge. I used to use the tour velvet, but im never going back =P

The Tour Velvets are great grips. I've had good results with them in the past. I just had the TV midsize versions put on a few of my clubs to see how I like midsize.

They wont last very long the way you use them...not many grips will. You'll need to regrip twice a year or so. I strongly suggest you go with a corded grip.

The soap and water deal has always worked fine for me.

Yes about 4 years it has been, I bought this set from dick's sporting goods and haven't done a thing with the grips since. I do not like corded grips, i don't know what it is i just don't like the feel. I am also not regripping every year. I personally see no need to. My scores have stayed consistent and even dropped as these grips have aged. If it wasn't for the slick spots, the rubber cracking on a couple of them and once they get wet in a rainstorm it is terrible i probably wouldn't touch them. I have bought a new driver and hybrid and have golfed two rounds with these 2 new clubs/grips in my bag and honestly when i pull them out of the bag i really don't say WOW those are so much tackier. I guess grips really don't effect me too much. I can also not see dishing out 7 bucks per grip. That is 70 bucks just for grips and i am getting the clubs i need redone totally for that price.

I just re-gripped and got the multi-compound new decades, very satisfied. They were really puto to the test this weekend as we had a lot of rain, did a great job, still very solid feeling even when very wet.

the tour velvets are a great grip. usually about $3 a grip its perfect price. they last long and always stand up to wear and tear no matter how often you play.

I have used both the multi-compound grips as well as the tour velvets. I don't use a glove and the multi-compounds tore my right hand to shreds. I switched to the tour velvets and loved them. I played them for two seasons, and liked them a lot. I recently changed to the Lamkin OCS tour grip which is suppose to be better for players who don't wear a glove.

GP New Decade Multicompounds stink...literally. I just bought new irons a couple weeks ago and ordered them with these grips. It has made my whole room stink. My girlfriend won't even go in my room anymore...

You were due new grips about 3.5 years ago! If you play that much you should change grips a lot more often. I'd say

at least twice a season. I believe the tour velvets are the number 1 grip in golf. there's a reason. they are good and pretty basic.

    • Day 23: weird day, and only had a little bit of time. Just did mirror work again, working on where the elbow is in the downswing
    • I flipped over to this tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyone else watch? I picked it up during the golf relay event, but seeing these pros out having fun in alternative events was refreshing and entertaining. I’m sure it will be on in reruns in the next week or so, so I won’t spoil the outcome. Im curious what others thought of it. I’m recording it’s later airing to see the beginning.
    • Day 443 - 2025-12-17 Made a few swings in testing some things out at another academy. Might pop up on someone else's podcast in a few weeks.
    • Day 37 (17 Dec 25) - nine hole round with my good friend.  We got paired up with a couple of the men’s group regulars as part of their shootout.  Started off with a wonderful quad bogie and then a dbl on three to be six over thru three holes.  Game went 180° over the next five as I shot one under (including a chip in birdie on hole six and four up and down 1 putt pars) for a net finish of five over. What could have been a really tough nine became a solid finish due to staying in the moment and not checking out.  Great day in course management and keeping perspective .
    • Day 127 12-17 Backswing and flow practice. Took advantage of the 60 degeee weather(it was 20 degrees Sunday)
