Does sharp edges do anything except tear up the balls? The grooves depth remain the same, a sharp edge may contribute slightly to spin, but in my opinion the irons (wedges) are better after being worn down some time so they don't rip up all the balls.

I use a very similar device to maintain the grooves of my wedges. It cleans and freshens the grooves. A few minutes with each scoring club every 4 or 5 rounds and it gives the wedges back that factory "bite". I don't know about that "ruffer" thing though . That looks scary.

Related question-If you are going to buy a groove sharpener, does the Titleist Vokey Spin Milled Wedge have U or V grooves-which dharpener should you buy. I think I might buy one, since my 60 degree has hit thousands of balls so needs it.

I too would not use the ruffer-no chance!

the groove sharpener has a V sharpener on one end, and a u sharpener on the other end

Would you send your club to have it milled again? It's the same theory as the ruffer... you are just doing it by hand.

id just buy a new wedge instead of having it remilled. unless of course it was some hard to find, rare wedge or something

Yes, I know. So which side do you use for the Titelist Vokey Spin Milled? Which side works best?

I use the U side. I bought mine from this guy on Ebay, I think it was $18. I've used it on hundreds of clubs, it still work great.

I make my own by taking an ordinary tempered (hardened) steel hand file (about 7 bucks) and grinding it on my bench grinder until I achieve the desired cutting shape (of course this is within the USGA parameters). I'll snap a photo tonight.

It works like a charm.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
