I think I am going to drop the 3iron in my bag, since distance wise yes it does fit, but game wise it really doesn't. I am a long hitter, my driver carries 285 and my 3wood about 255. I am debating between a 5wood or a new wedge. I hit the 3iron about 225ish, but I rarely find myself in distance to use it off a tee or from the fairway so I don't often use it. I am debating whether or not to get another 906f4 to match my 3wood or get either a 50* wedge or 64* wedge. Wedge-wise I am leaning towards the 50* to make up for the 52* because i really don't hit that as far as my old 52*. What are you're thoughts?

How far would you hit the 5 wood? 240 ish? How often do you have that yardage? I'd imagine that there's not too many holes where 255 off the tee will be worse than 240 off the tee. Or that you'd have 240ish into the green on a par 5 (I don't know how long the par 5s are where you play).

I would go with a gap wedge to cover my gaps. If that's a 52* or 50*, I think it's the right call IMO. It's nice having even gaps with your wedges. Every pro that I've seen has said that taking full swings is better than a partial swing (full GW vs. knock down PW). Since you are an 8 handicap, I would think that you could open up your 60* and do all sorts of things, so a 64* may not be necessary.

My distances are similar. I tried to play a 64* wedge and found it to be extremely difficult to control on full shots. I had (and have) much more success scaling down on a 60* for shots inside 90 yards. That is just me and the 64 may work nicely for you. I chose to drop my 3 iron and add a 19* hybrid. It is much easier to hit then the 3 iron and fills the gap between my 3 wood and 4 iron nicely. Adding a 50* would seem a bit redundant (assuming your PW is 48*). I do not think the 2* change in loft would maximize your opportunity to shore up the gap discrepancies.

I agree.... who really needs a 5th wedge... and do you really want a gap between 3-wood and 4-iron that is the size of Texas. Sure, you might not have a lot of those shots, but wouldn't it be nice to have at least one club in there. I would go with some sort of fairway wood or hybrid... something that is longer than the 4-iron, and obviously shorter than 3-wood.

I know for me the 4-iron is about 195-200, and the 3-wood is 230-240... that's a 30-40 yard gap for me. -just my 2 cents

You're pretty close to what I've got. I switched the 3 iron for a 3 hybrid which closes the gap a bit more to the 3 wood, and then bent the 4 iron one degree stronger to better split the gap between the hybrid and 5 iron. I then bent my 52 deg wedge 1 degree stronger and my 60 degree 1 degree weaker. For me these changes gave a little more flexibility in shots all over the course, and filled in the gaps in the wedges to better suit my swing.

I'd pick a hybrid or wood to fill that gap. Personally, I play my 5 wood more than my 3 so thats what I recommend.

i've decided on a few things:
1. put my old 52* back in(only a year or so old and better from the fairway and for chipping)
2. drop my 3iron
3. throw my old cobra 7wood back in to fill the gap where my 3iron was because it is actually quite usefull from the rough its much better for me than my hybrid experiences(yikes!)

thanks for your input everyone.

IMO, even with a driver, 3-wood and 5-wood; you are still going to have a pretty big yardage gap between your 5-wood and 4-iron.
That may or may not be a factor for you game, thats something only you know.
Personally, Id replace the 3-iron with a 2-hybrid or 3-hybrid.
I dont think Id add any more wedges if I were you. You already have your bases covered with a 52*, 56* and 60*. Adding a 50* or 64* would be overkill, IMO.
IMO, having that many wedges to choose from just gives you too many different shots to consider and to much stuff to think about.
