My best tip is to seek a pro and get some sessions or find some sessions for groups on your local course. Getting some basics down early on can rid you of much greef later on if you develop bad habits.

Don't try to get it all right at once, the basics like stance and takeaway are very important.

and once you take your lesson, practice, practice and practice. You may also want to have you clubs custom fit to you (later on when you groove a swing).

Good luck!

If money matters I would put them on lessons before fitting. A half set will do at this point.

I found the best thing I did to help improve my game is have someone video your swing. Allowing you to see it from another perspective allows you to understand what you are doing incorrectly easier. I did that then compared it to a plethora of online videos of pro swings and was able to hopefully start down a path of correcting some flaws.

Also take lessons if you can. I took a winter golf 12 week group training about 10 years ago and that got me going in the right direction early on.

Tip Number One: Don’t look directly into the sun before you take a swing.

Depends what you want out of this game called golf…

I have a friend who wants to “play at golf.” He just wants to look like a golfer; with the clothes, clubs, and the pseudo-structured swing of a country club clone. It is something he just plays at – and that’s completely cool. He can usually make a loop in 120 strokes, and I make sure to complement him after the round on how good he looks doing it.

But if you want to “go low,” may I suggest that you take lessons, get fitted, find a good practice facility and practice every day, read everything golf related that you can get your hands on, play as many rounds as possible and keep statistics on those rounds so that your are aware of the weak spots in your game, subscribe to The Golf Channel, practice to mitigate the weak spots in your game, sacrifice personal relationships, call in sick to work on a Wednesday so that you can get out to play three or four balls for 18 holes while it’s still wide open and then practice after you play, and practice some more.

    • Imma throw a dart in the dark as no one can tell what is happening once every fourth iron shot per your OP. This might sound counterintuitive but if ball position is too far back in the stance folks are known to throw down clubhead steeply. Could be happening. And yes, @billchaois not wrong; clubhead tends to bottom out wherever your pressure is. So slide forward (not sway), then hit.
    • Day 300 (!): did a stack session.
    • Day 24: Missed my weekly round due to a last minute little league makeup game this morning. Managed to get in some backswing rehearsals while grilling sausages for dinner, and then putted around the office/laundry room after dinner.
    • but I don't understand how that's possible you still want your head to stay back you don't want the upper body coming forward and plus I've tried feeling that and it made my fat shots worse and I then tend to pull and sky all my shots especially with driver because I get in front of it dont need force plates to see i finish on my left side
