Well I recently made a trip to golfsmith to attempt to find a new driver for the year but was somewhat confused with the help I received. But I did like the new Callaway Diablo but didn't hit to many others. What is good and what have people been talking about in the golf world? I'm currently hitting an old R7 Quad TP and I love it but looking for the next great driver? Any and all comments will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

One of the new drivers that has received less fanfare, but good reviews is the Adams Speedline. Of the new drivers I think this has been my favorite due to it's smaller size (it's stil 454cc, but it looks smaller at address). I'm not a big fan of the Diablo because even on the Neutral bias model the face is really closed (I'd guess 2-3 degrees, but I'm not sure), not to mention that head shape. I also liked the Titleist 909D3 (again, it's smaller at 440cc). I've read good reviews of the Mizuno MX-700, although I've yet to see it. And while it's still $400, I have to admit I like the smaller size of the R9. It looks good at address and feels right, but it would feel better if it was at least $100 less. The new Nike Dymo drivers look much better at address than previous SQ model drivers, but I didn't notice anything special about it when I hit it, though. I do not have a problem with the Burner except that they have added yet another 1/4 inch to the shaft length (now 46.25 inches) and the head is a little long. The Cobra S9 looks pretty good and has also gotten good reviews.

There are a lot of nice drivers, but more than any other year I can remember, shape and look at address are radically different. I will do, do not discount the Speedline without trying it. 2 people I know have bought them after only trying them at the insistence of salesperson at Golf Galaxy.

just depends what you like...

I personally would NEVER buy this years driver when last years are so much cheaper anyway. I loved the Callaway FT-i, but waited until this year... as a reward for my patience, they came out with the LCG version (which is longer for me, since it spins less), and reduced the cost by about $350... nothing like buying yesterdays $500 driver for $150.

R-9 is at the tops and the Callaway FT-9 is solid. Both a pricy but top of the line new quality and technology.

I would still say the Titleist 909 series. When Titleist gets it right you can't get much better.

I have heard good things about the speedline but I also don't mind buying last years model at a good price. Also I've been looking on Ebay and R9 are $80 less than in Golfsmith. Got to love the internet.

Speaking of last years model what about the FT5? I hit one last year and it boomed!!!!

I recently bought the FT-i LCG and came really close to buying the FT-5. I really liked both, but felt more comfortable with the FT-i for me. For a really good deal on the FT-5 and/or the FT-i, check out the deal RockBottomGolf has on the i-Mix:

http://search.rockbottomgolf.com/sea...lay_type=_Grid _ They have the FT-5 heads for $99; FT-i for $119; and shafts ranging from $79-$149. The good thing about this is it allows you get get the shaft and head you want and if you find one or the other doesn't work for you it's easy enough to buy one or the other new. Also, the FT-i and FT-5 are on sale this week at Golf Galaxy and Dick's Sporting Goods for $169 (but they seem to have a limited selection). The Taylor Made Tour Burner (which I believe was a 2008 club) is also at that price.

The 2009 Burner driver seems to be getting a lot of bag time at my home course.

I play a Taylor made 580XD ...SS is 115+

Unfortunately, there is no answer to this question because there are so many variables it's not as simple as driver X will increase your yardage by Y yards. It depends on factors such as your launch angle, shaft, how often you hit sweet spot, etc. The average player (probably a 10+ handicapper), if properly fitted will most likely see a yardage gain by going to a new driver because they are so much more forgiving now. For someone with your swing speed, the proper shaft is probably more important than the clubhead itself.

The best bet is to go try new drivers and get fitted so they can get the correct shaft for you. It's not just as simple as SS s needs a shaft with flex of R, S, X or whatever. Most of the times a driver fitting at a retail store (on a launch monitor) will only run you $30+ (at Golf Galaxy I think it's $29.99 and you can try several drivers and different shafts since several of the manufacturers now have driver fitting carts at those stores where you can try different shafts in the same heads).

    • Day 24: did a stack session. Worked a bit on downswing feels during breaks.
    • Day 444 - 2025-12-18 Light day of hotel room work. GEARS Summit v2.0 today. Good day.
    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
