Today I drained a 17 footer on 18 for birdie and most importantly to shoot an even par 72 for the first time in my life. Needless to say, I am VERY HAPPY!

Shot 35 out and 37 in... course was 70.6/127 and plays 6311. 3 birdies and 3 bogeys, it was windy as hell, but I don't think I've ever struck my irons better or played any smarter. That was a major goal for me, now if I can only break par for an entire 18.

Congratulations you must be on cloud 9. The closet I have ever been is even though 10 and i figured I will at least get in the 70's for the first time but I managed to mess that up as well. My advice is not to play for at least a week and just savior that great round you just had and I hope you always remember that putt. Its not like you just held on to shot par, you got a birdie on the last hole with a great pressure putt.

I am playing in a scramble tomorrow and I've already told my partners that all my good shots are all used up.

...I hope you always remember that putt. Its not like you just held on to shot par, you got a birdie on the last hole with a great pressure putt.

yeah, on 17 I had an 8 footer for birdie (par 5) and slammed it through the break leaving myself 4 feet comming back, so going into 18 I thought I blew it. The putt was a slicer (which I hate), so I just told myself to make a good stroke and not worry about what happened (I knew exactly what it meant too, as I am always aware of where I'm at, unless it's real bad). The stars aligned, God blessed my putt, and it tracked right into the center. I'm pretty sure my heart stopped beating for all 17 feet and there was absolutely no sound.

I remeber that one well too... breaking 80 was the most difficult hurdle I can remember... I was close so many times, but would finish with a bogey or two or worse... then it just happened, shot 77. Hopefully yours is comming soon, 80 is huge and you'll never forget it.

congratulations did you keep score of your

my prior low was 75 on a par 71... so +4, and I had never even broke par for 9.

FW - 71% (60%) GIR - 55% (38%) Putts - 29 (32) UD - 71% (35%) SS - 0% (16%) in brackets is my average over the last 74 rounds... first number is for that round. So, it was an improvement all around, but especially UD's. I have been steadily hitting more FW, more GIR, and having less putts and more UD, but today was real good all around. Another big thing was no penalty strokes (I usually have at least 1). Also, my misses were very manageable, and I made good decisions. The thing I noticed most was how crisp my iron shots were. It was crazy windy, so I was really trying to be smooth and make good contact... so maybe I just need to concentrate more on smooth good contact regularly.

Outstanding!

I've played down to a 4, but I've never shot even par over 18 on a full-sized course, but I could wallpaper a small room with the scorecards of my 73's.

Nuthin' mental about this stupid game, is there......?

Outstanding!!!!!!!!!

That is quite an accomplishment. You traded blows with Old Man Par and came out in great shape!!!!!!! Just think...it's early in the golf season....you've got to be confident at this point. You mentioned good course strategy....that is so key. Good luck!!!!

I've never been close.....shot a couple of 76's and 78's.....but never near even. This was a few years back...when I was hitting the ball longer and straight off the tee and irons were consistently crisply struck.....before all the plagues of damage knees.....arghhh.

Congrats! Next milestone, break par! Then break 70, that was my toughest hurdle and required more practice thing breaking 90, 80 & par combined.

It's the good days that keep us all coming back.

GIR - 55%

Please indulge me...

First, some things we know. Par was 72, so the holes average out to par fours. 55% GIR = 10 greens. So you missed eight. 0% SS could be 0-for-(any number 0 through 8), but 71% of x only really works out with the number 7, so I'll conclude that your sand saves were 0-for-1. Of the greens you missed, you saved par 5/7 + 0/1 times, or five times. That's five putts. You failed to save par three times, likely two-putting each. So you're up to 11 putts. Three times you likely one-putted for birdie to make up for the three bogeys, so now you're at 14 putts. That leaves seven holes, but still 15 putts. Did you reach a par five in two and three putt? Drive it on a par four and three-putt? I'm asking mostly because, as one of the guys behind Scorecard , I like to work stats backwards to see how things shake out and what we can learn. So what's missing? P.S. Congrats. That 7.0 index will be dropping pretty soon.

I had a chip in on a par 3 from just off the green for birdie (which was an UD), and two putted a par 5 for birdie (which was a GIR, actually a GIUR, but no stat for that).

    • Three women were playing on the fourteenth hole, walking up to the green when out of the bushes come a very well endowed masked naked man running across the green in front of them, into the bushes on the other side.   The first lady gasped and said, "That wasn't my husband"  The second lady sighed and said, "That wasn't my husband"  The third lady said, "That wasn't anyone from THIS Club!"

    • Played 9 yesterday at Cape Ann in Essex, MA. Played awful with maybe 4 really good shots but the course is so beautiful being right on the water it's hard to be to upset. I haven't practiced in forever so I'll need to get going on that.  Been better getting to the gym since I've been out here in NH. I came out from Minnesota for my well being so I figured I should be working on just that. Still hovering around 226 which surprises me as my sister in law feeds me quite well. Excited to be back east for the Celtics coronation. Go Celts!!!
