no matter which wood i hit, if i tee it up, i am slicing it right now..

anything im hitting off the ground im hitting str8 with a slight draw..

totally boggling my mind right now..

played earlier and everything off a tee was either cut or sliced.. any tips on fixing my tee woes.

my first tee shot with the driver was dead center of the driver.. the callaway mark was dimpled from the ball, yet the ball had a terrible slice..

my sewing is too far outside to in, and im struggling and starting to press..

any help would be arppreciated.

Ball position. Are you playing the teed-up at the same ball position as if you were playing it down? I've made that mistake enough times...

thanks for the suggestions.

i always have the same ball position with woods.. i don't think thats the problem.

i mean i look at the club after i strike it and im hitting every shot in the sweet spot, yet at about 180 yards my ball either cuts or takes a 90* angle..

i even slice or cut my 5 or 3 wood off a tee, yet i can throw the ball down and hit is str8 as a line.. i just dont get it, i think im being a head case with the tee box..

i concentrate on my back swing, keep my head down, eye on the ball throught the swing.. im just in a rut at the tee box, which is so frustrating..

thanks for the suggestions.

Try thinking "keep my head back" instead of down. You are not getting the clubface quite closed so if you are sliding forward a little bit that will hinder you. Remove the slide and your body will rotate instead and close the clubface.

When I slice I start my swing with too much wrist action. This also causes the occasional hook. I try to play my irons centered in my stance and my driver off the inside of my front foot.

Im 100% positive it has to do with your right shoulder. (if you are right handed) Really focus on trying to keep that shoulder back. If you start your downswing with a forward motion with that shoulder, theres only one path for the club to take after that. Over the top.

How is your balance at the end of the shot?

I find the only time i ever hit a slice is when i don't complete the balance transfer and finish the swing. To cure this i tried walking after the ball :)

I am big headed and i love it. Try it yourself and see how much your game improves.

while all of these suggestions are good and all, they are also creating more swing thoughts.

Tee the ball lower. "you're gonna like the way you hit...I guarantee it"

Teeing the ball lower actually adds more potential for sidespin if your swing isn't right.

You aint going to be hitting many good shots with "swing thoughts".

If you have any bad thoughts like "slicing the ball" just walk off and come back to it. Take a practice swing just behind the ball and believe that you are going to hit this shot straight down the middle 350 yards.

Make stance at the ball, hit it nice and smooth and hold the finish for the cameras!

I am big headed and i love it. Try it yourself and see how much your game improves.

I am more of an "arm" swinger..

But I hit my irons so pure, and my wedges are average to above average.. I struggle often with aim..

Tee Box is absolutely killing my scores right now.. My last 3 rounds have 81, 84, 89.

The 89, my tee shots were completely awful..

And the 89 i played the better of the 3 rounds..

If I were just consistent off the tee i would shoot 78-85 every round, which isnt bad.. It wins a few beers and beats all my friends, thats all Im truly concerned with..ha..

I just need to tweak my swing, or learn to compromise with what im doing wrong..

I have tried, hooding the driver and that didnt seem to work, if i shorten my back swing and choke down i hit the ball perfectly, but to the distance of my 7 iron.. which is probably what i should do...

I have only been golfing again since feb, after a 6 year hiatus, so im pleased with my progress, and im talking with a few pro shops about lining up some lessons..

Thanks for all the replies..

You guys are great.

Donnie how far do you hit your 3 or 2 Iron?

Maybe worth sacrificing a little distance to be straight down the middle. I hit my 3 Iron about 20 yards behind the average big hitter so it's not much of a loss for me.

Driver: 300 - 450 (Depends on the conditions).

oh, I get it now... you're listing your distances in feet?!?!

Cuz, yeah, 250 is not "20 yards behind the average big hitter." Look, friendly piece of advice: knock off what you're doing or you'll find yourself quickly among the disfavored by the vast majority of regular members here. Do I believe for one second that you shot -2 after eight years with no practice or that you average 250 yards minimum with your 3-iron? Not one bit. And nobody else does either.

Believe what you want, it is your choice. I am giving my distances in yards. And why compare your self to my own personal development? I am not here to make new friends I am just trying to pass on some of my experience from 10+ years of playing with people who are now Professionals on TV and other people ranging from 2 to +4 handicap on a daily basis.. When i was 5+ years old i hit golf balls on the mountain with a Pro (friend of my father) who has recently earned over $6,600,000. Back then my father was 0-1 handicap golfer and now he just selects players for the Team that currently plays for our country.

Maybe 8 years with no practice. But i still have my swing "built in" from playing every single day from the age of 5 to 16. You don't lose your swing you lose your consistancy and rhythm! I have lost my consistancy with my short game and once i bring that back im looking to be scoring 60's often. If you don't like my advice then don't use it, but what i do works for me and maybe it will work for someone else.

Golf is all about keeping the ball in play and scoring where it counts (short game).

    • Day 21, May 25.  Hit "the whole bucket" as practice today after reviewing my Skillest lesson.  I think something crept into my swing last week that wasn't in the lesson, so I went back to the lesson and renewed my focus.  Each ball was a minute or so, 2-3 slow rehearsal backswings and checking the mirror for how far back I was going. "The whole bucket" means every ball I have in the bin at my indoor practice room;  I counted when I put them back, that's six dozen plus six total.  That is probably more full swings than I took over the weekend (excluding range warm-ups) in two rounds!  But these were all with a 6-iron.
    • Day 265 5-25 Hit some balls just to see where i was, no "thoughts' except getting arms in front. Did some recording where i focused on getting chest through and arms in front.
    • Day 76 (25 May 26) - Broke out the "vintage" clubs (MacGregor blades, Wilson 4150 laminates) to work with clubs that are much less forgiving.  Worked through the bag using hard foam balls for the full swings, regular balls for the chips and pitches.  Found it to be a more focused session on making consistent contact.
    • Can you elaborate on this?  There's a par-4 hole at the course I've played the most (was my home course for over a decade, now 50 miles away but I still go and play there) whose green is below the fairway and I realized recently it's one of three holes on the course I've never made birdie, despite that I often have a short iron into the green for my second shot.  It isn't even that I haven't made birdie, but I realize I often don't hit the green.  My typical play of the hole is to have a near-GIR and sometimes I get up and down, but not as often as I would if I were trying to 2-putt.
