The point is that you can adjust the club for your game. Instead of making a standard and a draw driver, TM can make 1 club and give the owner the option of adjusting the head for what they need.

I'm sure TM pays them to use the R9. If they do get paid, then technically they're sponsored.

What about the ss people seem to say you need with this club. I keep hearing that if you are not around 110mph that playing this club is worthless. Is that true?

I'm not too sure, but I'm actually going to try a 909D2 this weekend for the first time, just to get a good look at two. The R9 is the real deal, feels so solid and straight, but the distance is creeping me out a little and has me wondering.. My brother tells me to shut the hell up that it's too early in the season and I will be glad I chose the R9..I'm still going to compare...

I finally tried one the other day and the sound and feel was amazing. Definitely getting this driver.

I have honestly never hit a driver like the R9. It is very very forgiving in regards to accuracy. I have played only Titleist drivers since 2000. But like I said soooo many tour pros are playing it, even guys that are not TM staff. Pros are switching like I have never seen, even guys like Harrington(wilson) are switching and playing it, so I just had to try.

Harrington tested, and isn't using it i don't think

Golf courses here just opened today so I, just 2 hrs ago, played my first round of golf for the year and the first with my R9. I was a little worried after reading what others were saying about a loss of distance (I can't afford to lose any distance) but I think those fears were unfounded. I was maybe 10 yds shorter than the driver I used last year (Cleveland Hibore XLS) but it was cold (8* celsius), wind was in our face most of the time, and the fairways were very very soft and wet. I fully expect, in more playable conditions, to be as long or a little longer than with my XLS.

Had a fade on the first two holes but I was expecting it (I have a natureal fade) so aimed left/center and ended up right/center. Changed the club setting on the 3rd hole and the fade was much less but still there. Adjusted my swing mechanics to be more inside out and was dead straight the rest of the day other than on the 17th where fatigue got the better of me and I sliced one out of play. So I hid 12 of 13 fairways. I did top one shot and hit again (first day out and my buddies and I were more or less just working out the winter rust).

The club felt very solid and had a very nice sound (very noticeable coming from someone who was using an XLS).

One day doesn't prove anything but so far, I'm happy with my purchase.

Padraig Harrington is most definitely playing the R9 with a fujikura motore. He switched as soon as it came out and has played with it since, even at the Masters he had it a couple weeks back.

And Jim Furyk is too. Maybe not that shaft I mean but the R9 head.

With some form of a diamana..could of sworn i saw a flowerband on that shaft.

Tried the R9 the other day.. it was nice.. didnt mess around with the tweaking at all.. not sure its a huge improvement over any of their other 1000 drivers.. but i really dig the shape..

Alot of people do not like the driver on this forum. I was one of those people, but after extensive use, i have come to like it...just wondering, am i the only one in this boat?

I also play the r7 425 and I hit the r9 on the course because my buddy bought one. I ripped it and it felt good. I didn't think it felt all that different than the r7. They were both neutral settings. The ball felt a little heavier off the face of the r9 but all in all I thought it was very similar.

Why are you looking to buy a new driver? Do you not like the 425 anymore? I love it and have no intention of switching. I've hit one of the new callaway drivers, the d2 and d3, and the r9 and nothing has moved me enough to even consider a change.

TM's "R" lineup has been great for me. I originally started with the R7 460 and absolutely killed that thing. Stupid me, decided to sell it thinking something I could do even better. I went through the G10, Tour Burner, but couldn't get the same distance and accuracy from the R7.

Now, I tried out the R9 and it was a great driver. Good distance, good feel, overall a solid club. I was planning on getting it but I went for the R7 Limited. The R9 is a lot more expensive due to the different settings and I really have no need for that. The Limited has been great to me and if it wasn't for the price, I may have had the R9 in the bag.

Verdict is in for me.

I have officially concluded the comparison and the Titleist 909 D2 is in bag. Erik's review I just read is accurate. I personally think the R9 is not long enough for me. I know Kenny Perry said hes lost about 8 yards with it. It was many more for me. I was blowing it by with a 905R and so I assumed the 909 would be longer. It's actually close the same to me but man, the technology has come a long way, the 909 and R9 are very forgiving and love to hit fairways. Thing is the R9 is just too short when you barely miss. The 909 is plenty long

Agreed. I honestly wonder if the FCT is to blame for the "dead" and "short on slight mis-hits" stuff.

I hit some rockets just above the sweet spot, but it's tough to get that quarter-inch circle every time.

Just got fitted & this was the best club for me by far - with Grafalloy ProLaunch Platinum S Flex. They actually told me the shaft wasn't so important with the R9 because the head is so versitile. Anyway - I hit a high cut the with 2007 Burner (too high) and had the R9 adjusted to position L (the largest draw). Well i've never been so impressed with a driver. I couldn't believe how far the ball stayed in the air - straight and penetrating.

Distancewise - I was consistantly hit the 07 Burner 280 yards (11/12 launch angle, 4000 rpm, 110 mph s/s, 160mph b/s). But that was all in the air - all carry, no roll. The R9 was going 4 yards less. (12 launch angle, 2200 rpm) But the roll was accounting for up to 20% of the distance. I'm looking forward to playing into the wind & on hard pan/links ground - the ball will go for miles!

I was looking for a new 3 wood - hit that first. Was carrying 250 + roll. Staying in the air forever. Ordered that on the spot. But the driver required a little thought due to the cost and a "movement of funds" from my savings account. Ordered it today.

Worth it? I'll tell you in 2 weeks.
