I'm trying to decide what to do.......the story is this....I played a round last wednesday afternoon [as a single]and it was very slow the first 2 holes [it took be 1 hr to get to the 3rd tee box] so I decided to have some extra fun and play two ball/best ball or whatever you want to call it. Basically, hit 2 balls off the tee, take the best one, hit 2 from there, etc. you get the picture. I played this way for all 18 and I ended up with a 69 on the day.

Now, according to Scorecard before this round started I had a handicap of 9.1 and after the round was played I had a handicap of 7. Being that this round of 69 wasn't a true, straight-up round of golf I'm not sure I want to keep it entered into Scorecard as I want to keep my handicap as true as possible. On the flip side, I like the calculations and the record keeping that I get from Scorecard, thus I want to keep all my scores in there. So, do I keep it in or keep it out? what would you do? any similar "conundrums"?

I wouldn't keep it in there, as it isn't a true round. I could not justify a 69 and the amount that it would change my handicap, because it is not a true judge of my game. And depending on how you are using your handicap, it may hurt you more than help you.

While you shot a 69, you didn't really shoot a 69.

You didn't follow the rules of golf, so there's no way in heck you should post that. Not even to Scorecard as it'll throw off your stats, but certainly not to your handicap calculator (GHIN or whatever you use).

I have to echo the sentiments joshiemac25 and iacas – you didn’t shoot a 69. You played a nice practice round.

That's how I feel about it. While I admit it's pretty cool to see '69' on the scorecard it wasn't a true score so I shouldn't include it in my handicap. Thanks for your and everyone else's input!

i agree... it was a nice day on the range, but you definately did not play golf... just as I didn't card the 66 a few of us shot in a captain's choice scramble last week even though we used a lot of my shots. To be honest I'm a little puzzled that you would even ask this question.

How is it a conundrum? It was practice.

If a person said that they played their original to the green and then putted with two balls and took the best score you wouldn't be expecting them to call this a proper round of golf. But this is essentially what you have done, playing a personal ambrose where scores are routinely many strokes under par. If a pro did what you did, he'd be shooting 60 almost every round. As has been pointed out, the question is, did you really have to ask?

Nice practice round, but it shouldn't factor into your handicap, besides - that score just might come back and bite you in the ass if you put it in there.

Since this thread is open, would the score count towards handicap if you played your first ball all the time for your score. But you also played a second practice ball, never counting the shots, just hitting it to kill time/ practice.

I suspect the answer is no again because I am pretty sure that the rules don't allow practice during play.

Just an FYI. OOBGolf has a stat tracker and handicap measuring thing.... and you can pick what kind of round you're entering and whether it'll apply to the handicap or not. So you can have your stats and scores, but it won't mess with you hc.
