So this year i switched from a vardon overlap grip to an interlocking. I seem to hit a lot more pure with it. But ive started getting blisters on my left index and right ring finger. Even through the glove. Do i need to build a callous or am i doing it wrong?

If you are a bigger fellow with big hands, it makes sense. Assuming you are gripping the club correctly of course. With you handicap, I suspect you are. I used the interlocking for over ten years. As I grew older, and bigger, it hurt. Really bad, not just sore. I switched to the Vardon grip and never looked back. Never will.

I just switched this winter, at first I got similar wear and tear, not quite blisters, as you described but the grip switch also caused me to tighten up the grip a bit at first.

Your post made me look at my hands because it has been about 3-months with quite a bit of swinging and I have not had even the slightest notion of discomfort in my hands.

Sure enough on the left hand there is a very small calous on the index finger just below the first knuckle and another one on the right hand ring finger between the first and second knuckle. Basically exactly where my hands join together under the club.

I've used the interlocking grip for more years than I can remember ... never had a blister, callous or sore fingers. My insticnt wants to say you guys are gripping with way too much pressure. Loosen the feel of your grip and don't squeeze the club so hard. Without seeing your swing, your hands or whatever, it's just my guess that you might be gripping too hard, regardless of grip style.

I used to get blisters on my right ring finger too(the side towards the pinky, right by the side of the knuckle). Since loosening my grip I don't get the blisters anymore.

I hit over 200 balls at the range today and no blisters at all. It does get a little rough and callused though which is probaby normal I would say.

Weird, those spots are EXACTLY where I'm getting my blisters. I use interlock but I think I'll give overlap a shot.

    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.

    • I have been on a roll in November. Today was a 77 (69.2/115, 6,050 yards) on a wet course with dew covered bumpy greens. Better greens and I might have shaved a few more strokes off the score.
