Another vote for the iGolf Neo. Front Back and Center is all I need. It gives you options for up to 4 custom defined points so you can set up for hazards and such if necessary. For me the price and no need to pay a yearly fee is great. They have nearly every golf course in my area and the one small par 3 course I mapped in one round myself and now I don't have to worry about it in the future.

Josh F.

PS. Also as already mentioned, you can track the distance of your shots with it, although you can't save them for future reference.

Check out the UPro http://www.uprogps.com/ I've owned both the Skycaddie SG4 and currently use the UPro. No yearly fee and all the "basic" mode courses are free. You get one free "pro mode" with your purchase. I got mine on Ebay for $200. It can measure distances and give you layup yardages. You can set them (SkyCaddie and UPro) up to go to the next hole automatically or when you prompt them to. I keep my UPro in my pocket and give it a quick look when I get up to my ball. I feel a gps is quicker than a range finder just not as accurate but that's just my opinion.

I got a Golf Logix GPS the other day after seeing the infomercial on the golf channel. It is essentially a Garmin e-trex unit programmed for golf. These are awesome gps units if you are not familiar. Had Garmin not made it, I would not have gotten it. This is a very sturdy and waterproof unit. My wife and I float remote arctic rivers in Alaska each fall. Flyfishing and rafting for 40-60 miles over a week or two. We use the Garmin etrex for our gps units. That is how we get to the right gravel bar for the bush plane pickup. If this unit is good enough for remote river travel, it will sure as heck get me around a golf course. Ha ha..

This is an amazing unit. Just amazing. I hooked it up the computer and downloaded 20 courses that I am likely to play. This took just a few minutes. Childproof, really. Took it out today and was extremely pleased. At all times, you just look at it and it shows exact yardage to center of green. All you have to do is look at it. It tells you yardage to bunker, yards for 150 yard, 100 yard, etc.. lay up distance to green. After the drive (on par 4/5) it tells you the distance to front/center/back green. It advances as you go, automatically, and you don't have to do anything but look at it. Could not be simpler, yet give all the info you need in my opinion. I got the optional protective case, $19.99, and put the gps in it and clipped it to my golf bag where my towel/brush goes. Worked out great. I am there getting a club, look at the gps, go about my business.

It has a feature (one button you press) that measures shot distance. Just hit the shot, hit the button, go to ball, hit the button again, and it reads of 272 yards, etc... I am on Nantucket and had 30 + mph winds this morning. Drove what looked like a perfect drive and did the distance of shot button. Turned out to only be a 188 yard drive! Also really enjoyed measuring the distance of my gap wedge, pitching wedge, etc.. Great to see an actual number, like 87 yards, instead of my normal guesstimate. Can't recommend this gps unit enough.

If anyone wants one, be sure to get it on Amazon. The subscription is $30 a year. But that does give you access to download 23,000 courses. My home state, North Carolina, has 615 courses listed. Every course I could think of was in the data bank. You can download one course for free without doing the $30/year subscription so if you play on the same course all the time, this may very well be an option for you. It is easy to add/delete/change the courses you store in the gps unit. As I said, you can store 20 courses at a time. Just takes a few minutes and the software is idiot proof. Wish I had bought one of these years ago.

The intelligreen feature has a "cross hair" that you can move around the green which will adjust the yardage to that spot. Adjust it to the pin sheet and you're all set.

Yeah, I've done that, and I'm still off by 5 yards or so. Even if you get the pin location exactly correct on the Intelligreen the fact that it's GPS makes you only about +/- 3 to 5 yards accurate.

Great reviews guys!

I'll give the iGolf and Golf Logix units another look.

Have you had to deal with either company's customer service....i keep reading how bad the Sky Caddie service is.

Thanks!

I have dealt with iGolf's Cust Service on a software bug/issue. Easy as pie ... they were helpful and spoke perfect English!!! (Unlike Charter Cable ... yikes).

By the way, the iGolf comes with a cheap plastic "belt holster." I made a small bracket, screwed the belt clip to the bracket and threaded a thumb screw through the bracket to my umbrella holder on my Sun Mountain Cart. The GPS is staring me right in the face! I walk up to my ball, look down for yardages and grab a club. No fumbling on my belt or pockets for the GPS!!!
I make all my own clubs:

Great reviews guys!

Yeah, I ordered the Golf Logix from their website, then found it on Amazon for about $70 cheaper. I called to get a return authorization for the more expensive of the two, then ordered the cheaper. They gave me the authorization number for the return and asked if there was anything about the product I did not like. Told them I found it cheaper elsewhere. They said, good for you and have a nice day. No questions asked and very polite.

I returned my SG5 for a uPro and it has been my first GPS device. I pulled the trigger right away for the SG5 and then realized that uPro isn't that far behind or if anything it's far ahead of the current SG5 SkyCaddie so I returned the SG5 for the uPro.

Although I don't have experience with the SkyCaddie SG5, I have seen it in action from others and have seen it work wonders. I wanted to try something different. I haven't seen any "bad" reviews for the uPro but have read numerous good things about it and what it can do versus the SG5.

I think the biggest thing that people will bring up, feature-wise, is the intelligreen feature that the SG5 has but the uPro is on par with it with it's "any point" technology. UPro has revolutionized GPS rangefinders by using a different approach but I won't go into the details here, just search the forum.

Size, pocketsize, bulkiness, etc. really isn't something that should be a concern although if you want something pint-size, uPro is it. Battery wise, uPro can last a good 2 to 3 rounds of 18 holes. I presume the SG5 is on par with it or better, so really the two pretty much matches each other.

Either purchase will leave a happy customer, but uPro I can back for the fact that it's ahead of its time.

Yes, I know that there are others out there and uPro is fairly new to the market but after Callaway acquired uPro, many good things to come hopefully.

One of the things that you should note, the SG5 has undergone some more changes and additions which now can also track scores and other little cools things.

uPro has this on the pipeline and even the device has a button for Voice Activation which needless to say, is currently not functioning because they are not done with it, yet the hardware is there. It is expected to receive a huge firmware/software update which will implement voice activation (how it works I don't know) and of course score card capability (like the SG5).

Other than that, I would suggest uPro because it has been rock solid from my point of view! Plus it's cool to show off!

Oh, one more thing, uPro customer service is outstanding! I haven't been placed on hold or struggled to find someone to talk to... overall they have solved all my problems that I have inquired about.

Have to say I love my SG 2.5. It has all the features of the SG 5 except the color screen. Marks distances to all hazards and how much to clear them. best lay up spots, and distances to front, back and pin spots on greens. and the hole rotates to show proper angle of attack. you can mark your ball and check to see how far your hitting your shots "use it off the tee for driver distances mostly" and now it also has a scorecard and a clock. Really has everything I could ever use! Great product and smaller than the SG 5 and can click it onto my bag or on my belt and it never bothers me. The only thing that might get anoying is everyone you play with will be looking to you to get yardages!!! LOL

If your phone supports it, you're better getting software like freecaddie. Very cheap, no running costs, massive list of courses and easy to add new ones. More accurate than a dedicated GPS unit with the assistedGPS from a supporting phone. From zero cost up to $24.95 with no subscription fee it's a no brainer.

Ok, I know that Iw ill eventually will end up getting one these things, but my birthday is comming up, so I trying to see if should ask for one (it's better wehn you don't have to pay for it, don't you think?

If you have an iphone or a smart phone, you can get apps. for golf course gps which will be a lot cheaper than SkyCaddie, et al.
