I'm what some of you may refer to as a 'driver-addict'. I can't help myself but buy, or atleast want to buy, every driver i come across. I have bought and sold more drivers than I can count on my hands and feet combined in probably only the last 3 years. And it's not like I'm a heavy hitter; I guess for me it just doesn't get any better than ripping one off the tee and watching it sail into the sky and then land gently in the middle of the fairway. MmmHmmm, puts a smile on my face just thinking about it

Anyway, I was just wondering if you guys bought more of your drivers new or used. I mostly buy new, but as this economy is tightening I'm starting to think that I might have to mix it up and dive into some of the local used-club bins.

ps - First thread started! I feel so privileged.

The last driver I purchased, see sig, was done via ebay but I purchased the shaft and head, separately. Before that, it was always used heads and new shafts. Like you, I'm always looking at different drivers. Recently, I demoed the new Cobra S91 Pro S with the Matrix Xcon 6 shaft. This was a pretty awesome driver with a very light shaft. I've been searching for one, used but the prices have been astronomical. I'm going to talk to my course pro and see if he'll sell me the demo.

I always buy my drivers used... I may be a generation behind but I save money for my greens fees.

Pretty much anything but wedges I will get used. Ballin on a budget and still being able to 'ho good equipment pretty much demands it.

Other than my wedges all my clubs are purchased used. I love Titleist equipment, just not the Titleist price. Give the access to the used club market it makes it rather easy to find good prices on very good equipment provided you know exactly what you are looking for. Example, Titleist D2 drivers. Picked one up with the right shaft for $110 back in Feb. Can't imagine I would hit a $300 909 any better. But to each his own. There is something to be said for the pleasure of slowly taking off the plastic off a fresh new clubhead!!

I buy everything used besides my wedges as well. If you look around you can find stuff that is in great shape for cheap. Sometimes it takes more than a few trips to the stores, but I always find stuff that fits me, is comprable to the new tech., and is affordable.

I like used and closeout items. Just picked up my G5 irons on closeout, got 5-PW for $300. Then I came across a last generation Burner driver used for $99 and couldn't pass that up, especially with a 30 day return policy on the used gear. Paying a premium for the latest stuff just isn't something I can afford when there are some great alternatives out there.

There are some good deals on new drivers right now though, the free fairway wood offered by a number of companies seems like a nice buy.

I got mine used. It was the demo that I hit with. Discounted price, with an upgraded shaft. Still got the the free three wood that Adams was offering. The driver looks almost new. No "pop up" scuffs on the top. A few scuffs on the bottom, but none on the face. I am very satisfied. Drove the green on a 300 yard par 4 the first time I hit it on the course. :D

I've owned three drivers - a TaylorMade something or another, a Cobra F-Speed, and my current one. All 3 purchased used at Roger Dunn tent sales.

First two I made sure the shaft was right and the grip felt good.

Third one, I knew I was going to get a different shaft installed, so I picked up the head I wanted in the loft I wanted. The shaft that came with it was wrong for me, and the grip was mediocre, but I never hit it, so it didn't matter.

I've only bought one driver and it was when I first started. Taylormade R5 for $150 since it was already couple years old I believe. I don't hit enough fairways to justify a new driver for me.

I am starting to think that since I was custom fitted for my last driver that the shaft is the most inportant component so if you can pick up your "new" driver used and get it reshafted then why not after all it is the green way to recycle!

I'm in the market for a new driver and I'm looking at buying used. Unfortunately, being on a student budget doesn't really allow for $300 drivers. I bought my irons used but I had a chance to hit them before I bought them. I wouldn't buy a driver off the internet without hitting it first so I'm down to checking what's in the used section and trying the club out to see if I like it.

And in doing so you will likely find a better driver than most of us

never paid for one. Always snag a hand me down from dad. I just don't hit them well enough to justify the price tag on drivers yet
