I think you should remember this quote from Abraham Lincoln for future posts:

Yeah, but this is a forum.

That advice doesn't apply here.

I haven't used Graphite enough in irons to have a true opinion on it. Although, price wise graphite is usually more expensive, so it is a turn off to me.

I'm sure this conversation came up the same way when it was being implemented in drivers and fairway woods, time will tell if it becomes the new standard or not.

I play graphite shafts in my wood because I am just trying to reduce as much weight I can while still having control, the driver is the only club in the bag where you don't really have a distance measure (obviously we all have physical limitations) but what I mean by that is my objective is to stand on the tee and hit the ball as long as I possibly can, unlike my 7 iron where I want it to fly 160yds... so, with irons I look for control and feel... which is why I play Project X shafts

I don't think there is one pro on the tour that uses graphite shafts in their irons that I know of. My question is: why in the land of Mergatroid is the price of graphite shafted irons a $100.00 to $150.00 more than steel shafts. Just doesn't make sense to me!

Wrong (though, on the technicality "that I know of" I guess you could claim otherwise). Scott Verplank, Scott Hoch, Rich Beem, and others have. Verplanks almost always has.

Because they cost more to make. C'mon...

Graphite is needed on the driver to get the most distance out of them but on irons accuracy is the most important factor and steel is more stable. If it weren't all the pros would surely play graphite irons.

warbirdlover,

That is simply not true. I'd urge you to go and try Alidla's NV Pro 105 graphite iron shafts, and tell me they aren't just as if not more stable than any steel iron on the market. With the new processes and materials companies like Matrix and Aldila are beginning to use, I think you will see a major shift on tour in terms of guys beginning to use graphite shafts in the irons more often. There are certain things like dynamic side spin reduction and ball flight alteration which graphite can accomplish that steel can not touch. The reason why most guys on Tour use steel is because it's what they've used their whole lives. That will be the biggest hurdle to jump. Getting someone to change from something they've used for fifteen to twenty years. Do you know what the most played brand of graphite is on Tour? The answer might surprise you.

I use steel, but again as stated above; it's what I've used my entire life. If I was able to find a graphite shaft that felt and acted the same as steel and I didn't have to take out a second mortgage to reshaft all of my irons, I'd at least consider it...

Right now pros have not needed what has been the primary advantage of graphite, lower weight. Since pros don't need more distance in their irons, the time to acclimate to the feel of a different weight shaft hasn't been worth it. When your livelyhood is at stake you won't change without a significant advantage. A lot of the pros carry graphite shafted hybrids. As people grow up using graphite they will desire as similar a feel as possible throughout their sets, pros appreciate the savings in wear and tear on the joints, and the customization that will become possible, I think will gradually lead to more graphite shafts. Costs might even be more competitive if process can be made more effecient. After all metal shafts have a 75 year head start and are much further allong the development curve.

Pretty sure you're not even reading the thread. We just stated that several PGA tour players have graphite shafted irons.

Ask John Daly or KJ Choi if they're embarassed to have graphite in their irons.

i'd be embarrassed if i spent all the money you did on clubs and still be a 9 handicap. :] nothing is wrong with graphite shafts.

Best reason to use graphite shafts is if you either have elbow problems, or are over 60 years old...
