I drop my son off of school and nearby is a golf course, so I practice putting and chipping for about 1 1/2 hours 3 days a week and play at least once a week.

I only practice putting and chipping around the green.

I start with long putts and work on 3 - 5 footers. On long putts I putt 3 ball and finish each putt like I am playing a round.

When I practice chipping I finish the hole by putting everything in.

Practice like I am out on the course playing or pretend that its a putt to win the Masters.

my son played with me on Monday and he shot 88 with the following stats:

13 out of 14 fairways hit or 93%
6 out of 18 greens hit or 33%
36 putts
3 out of 14 up and downs or 21%
2 three putts

44 front
44 back

If he got up and down 50% the time he would of cut 4 strokes and had 32 putts shooting 84.

I am going to have him chipping around the green before we go out next time we play.

Since I'm jobless right now I get to practice every day....I'll either go to the local course and chip/pitch and putt for 1-2 hours then hit the driving range or I'll play anywhere from 9-27 holes because my friends' parents own the golf course and I play for FREE. At the driving range I always take my whole bag and work my way through the bag LW-Driver. Then go back through and work on what I feel like needs attention(usually everything). On the practice green I play putting games with 12 or so balls and it really seems to be the best way for me to practice this ornery area of the game. As far as chipping and pitching I take 6 balls and play each ball to one of the 3 holes, 2 for each hole obviously. From there I just make my way around the green trying all the funky lies I can....really makes it challenging and fun to put yourself it ridiculous spots. All I can say is that varying my short game practice while making sure it's truly helpful is the most rewarding thing I've done for my game.

Chipping and Pitching probably 6 days a week and at least 100 shots. I put a 5 gallon bucket out and try to fly the ball into the bucket from 10, 15 and 20 yards (give or take)

Range is hopefully 3 days a week depending on work. Sometimes I get 4 in. Small or Medium bucket of balls with 85-90% of them be shots 175 and in. Trying to get to where I hit more greens. I put 30 minutes to an hour after my range session about 75% of the time

I putt for about 1-1.5 hours twice per week. Sometimes it's only once. I also hit balls off a grass range for about 45 minutes a couple times/week. I work on what needs to be fixed (right now it's a 2 hybrid). I also hit wedge shots to different spots on the range. The course I go to doesn't allow chipping/pitching into their practice green and doesn't have another designated area for that, so I'm trying to find another place for that. I also have a net that I hit into occassionally.

Rarely, I hit some balls at the beginning of the season and then maybe go to the range once or twice during the season.

Rarely. I'll hit the range a couple times early in the season but that is it.

The only "practice" is right before a round, hitting a few balls and putting for 5 or 10 minutes.

Otherwise, if you count chippping in my yard and practicing my takeaway and set up in my living room, then I guess that might be considered practice.

If I have a couple hours to get out and do something golf related, I'd rather just go play 9 holes.

It varies depending on the time I have available. I've given up on putting at home since my dog thinks I am putting the ball for him to fetch.

After graduation, I too am jobless so I practice every day. I hit about 150 balls on the range, starting with an 8 or 7 iron and then move in even or odd numbered irons. I would then pick the 5 or 6, then the 3 or 4, 4 wood, driver, and then go down to wedges, half shots, 1/4 shots, and finish with either the pw or the 9 hitting pins with full swings. Then I go over to the chipping green, chip 70 from fairway conditions, 70 from rough about 35-40 yards away, a couple from the sand if I feel like it, and then to the putting green. When I'm hitting full shots, I'll try to pick a shape and hit to a target, all the way up to 4 wood. My driver, I try to imagine a fairway between flags and shape within those constrains, sometimes I'll use a flag marker as a turning point in a dogleg and work on shaping around that

    • I have an update… I don't have much of a response, because the fact that they would ADD the numbers for the lead and trail shoulder together… I mean, wow. I was giving them too much credit. Nobody would think to assume they were doing THAT. That's beyond comical. One of the biomechanists I talked to put it this way: "So if I squatted down and went from 180 to 90 deg knee angle, then I would say 180 deg range of motion because I have two knees?" I'd type more (maybe), but honestly, I'm laughing a bit too hard. 🤣 Update: Mini Manavian blocked me on Instagram, so I cannot see his post showing Bryson with about 50° of range of motion (with a driver) from P4 to P7, and 75° only if you go out to the mid-follow-through. What a terrible loss for me. 😉
    • Thanks, interesting to read. The swing is definitely very timing dependent. I hit it consistently I guess but consistently bad.
    • I've shot 91-74 on the same day before. Couple of years ago played a two round tournament on Bethpage Black. I shot 72 in the first round and 90 in the second. First round I played very well. Second round I played okay, but had about 5 shots that hit the lips of bunkers and bounced down into them. A couple of those wound up in footprints - I was unamused - and I failed to get them out. Anyway - lots of bunkers and my bunker play isn't great and then add a couple of footprints and me getting pretty tired and it added up to a lot.  Only you can really tell though what's causing the variance. It might be that your swing is very timing dependent and when it's timed well you play well and when it's not then it goes all over the place. In that case, some lessons and working on your swing could be the key. If it's more that you tend to feel like you hit it fairly consistently, but you have days where the shots come off and days where they don't, then that's more likely a course management issue. If that's what you need to work on, then you could read Lowest Score Wins and build a plan of attack based on that.  Rest assured though that a pretty big range from high to low is fairly common. Even PGA Tour players often have 18-20 shot spreads from best to worst rounds in a season. It's a common affliction among golfers.
