Whats the worst ball you've played this year?

For me, it was a sale on Tommy Armour (I think thats how its spelled) TI-Spin balls. They were on sale at Walmart for 5$ for 15. I picked up 4 boxes, and a couple of days later I tried them. I couldn't hit a decent shot with them at all, and after the third hole I switched back to Callaway Warbirds. The rest of the round went pretty well with the warbirds.

Fast forward to home. I have a large field in back of my house, long enough for me to hit drives. So I started hitting these balls in back of the house, figuring it was just me. I have a large inventory of range balls, so i made sure to keep them seperate to get a few people to try them.

Everyone hates them, they have no distance and dont fly straight.

Im all for cheap balls (I bought 10 boxes of warbirds for 100$, great balls for a high handicap like mine), but I wouldnt take those ones for free.

Pinnacle Gold Distance I found in a ditch and turned to when my game deserted me (didn't want to loose another expensive B330) I can only describe it as a painted rock.

Nitro Blaster golf balls. I got a free sleeve at a golf show. They hit long but had really bad feel and hurt when coming off wedges or putter.

The ones I lose in the water or O.B.
But really those nitro blasters are terrible they were not worth the price and I got them for free.

Back during the "cold" winter months I tried a tip and picked up some Wilson Zips....theory being the softness would yield great results in the cold.

They didn't feel good at all off the putter and came up 1/2 club short off my irons and wedges.

The best ball that I've tried this year has been the ProV1. Wow, big revelation there, right. I simply never had the confidence in my game to spend this kinda dough on a premium pill like this. I finally couldn't resist and wanted to see what all the hype was about. OMG....can you say backspin! I had some wild results. Driver distance wasn't harmed either. I just don't have the $$$$ to play these balls all the time, though.

Tried playing with some Wilson XDuty US Open balls. Worst balls I've hit with a golf club, but then again using tennis balls may not be desirable.

Wow if those are the worst balls you've played man you live in luxury. Last year when I started, I was playing these "Ultra" golf balls and they were hard as rocks

    • Really interesting you say that. As my swing has improved I'm starting to struggle with pulling left. It looks like a "draw", but it has more to do with face than path, as I'm pretty close to neutral to slightly out to in most of the time. I've also moved the ball considerably further forward in my stance than I used to, so it makes sense the face would be further shut at impact than before.  Now I think of it, I've been compensating by aiming by an uncomfortable amount to my right, which causes my brain to panic on the downswing. I might try opening face at address and get used to that.
    • Day 13 (13 May 25) - Nice break in the rain just after mid-day, so got outside to continue the trail hand drill - moved up to 7i but still with hard foam balls.  Starting to see a smoother transition into the downswing and more consistent ball first contact.   Kept the swings to about 3/4 speed as I work on this small adjustment in the swing.
    • Day 6: Worked on my putting stroke by hitting putts using only my right hand.
    • I've got pretty big hands but I've also felt the challenge of ensuring the grip is in the fingers resulting in a not on purpose stronger grip. I've been making some swing changes that was resulting in the natural feeling at impact being a closed face. My grip has always been fairly strong. Not trying to sound like an asshole or anything, but the answer for me at least was just to start taking the grip from a weaker starting point! I have a pretty ingrained hand and wrist setup when I take my grip. I just started turning the club to have an open face when I start my getting the grip in the pinky routine. Has been working nicely. Lets me have the grip in my fingers and achieve a more neutral grip.
    • @dennyjonesand I are planning to stay in the Poland, OH area Friday night.  If any want to get together for dinner and/or drinks let us know. We are not sure exactly where we will stay or what time we will get there but if we can hook up with any of you it would be fun.
