call me spoiled or whatever, but I won't watch golf unless it's in HD. I can't stand watching it when the pictures not crisp. I tried watching the BMW PGA and couldn't watch more than 10 minutes cuz it just looked so crappy. what do you guys think? And no I'm not a snob, I just like a good picture.

Golf and american football are by far the best bang for the HD buck! Golf because it is played outdoors on some of the most beautiful plots of land in the world. Also, let's face it. We all know it's the greatest game ever played. Nothing against all the other outdoor sports but american football comes in second because of all the pagentry (bands, elaborate uniforms, fireworks, etc.) that comes along with it. You could make an argument for racing or soccer but IMO football just has something "extra" in HD that you don't get with the others.
Having said all that, I would watch golf on my cell phone if I had no other choice. I'd be more likely to pass on other events citing non-HD programing as the reason.

And baseball, HD makes baseball almost worth watching again.

My local cable network does not have The Golf Channel in HD which is a real bummer, but HD and golf go together like lamb and tuna fish.......

Yeah, wanna make 14 dollars the hard way?

I have a hard time wayching anything non-HD anymore. Even my girlfriend doesn't like watch SD programming anymore. And she thought it was stupid to spend that much on an HDTV.

The problem with HDTV is that it turns everyone over the age of 7 into a video snob.

Try watching the movie Apocalypto. It's absolutely stunning.

Back to the original topic, HD is the only way to get my girlfriend to watch golf... "Wow that's pretty!"

My two favorite television acronyms....

HD & DVR.

You can watch a 3 hour golf telecast is about an hour and never miss a shot.

Except for the last few holes, I hate watching the event live.

I cant watch any sport in regular definition anymore. Once you get used to HD, its impossible to go back.

I can't figure out if this says a lot about HD or marketing.

I have an HD TV but really it doesn't upset me if a program isn't in HD.

What I can't understand are the people and sports bars that have these nice HD projectors and tv's but don't pay for the HD signal. Then they stretch the picture so that the black bars don't show. Everyone looks short and fat. If I wanted to see that I could look in the mirror... But I agree, sports and HD are fantastic... Hockey is fantastic in HD. Wish I was still watching hockey, fricken' Caps...

Come on over and root for the Pens!

The day I hooked up my TV, the first thing I watched was a hockey game. I was thoroughly impressed. I think the best HD show I ever saw was called "Ant Wars". The filming and display is amazing. To see a 52" ant head is something else!

I love watching golf, in here we don't have HD channels, well only the local channels, but for watching golf, nope. I remember last year the next week after the US Open I went to Las Vegas and they were showing the repetition in HD and I love it! It looks very very good!

Cheers

Hmmm... that gives me an idea, new tv and cable... Though I think GF persuasion is easier then wife persuasion, they can normally see through the BS... Unless i can make "America’s next top model" on HD, i might be pushing my luck.

    • In the old days, pre-2020, "playing to your handicap" meant a net score about equal to the Course Rating.  that led to problems when people played against each other from different tees, people playing tees with a lower CR would generally shoot lower scores.  Course Handicaps were adjusted for each competition to make it even, usually lowering the course handicap for the "forward tee" players. So now if you "play to your handicap", the (68.4-72) term means your score will be even par, no matter which tees you play from.  No adjustment needed for people playing from different tees.  Look at your example, the guy shoots 82 every time, his Course Handicap of 10 gives him an even par net score every time.
