It all depends on where you are from really. For example:

Canadians - Canadian Open
Aussies - Australian Masters
Or where you live in the country (ie. Jerry Kelly playing his home state Wisconsin instead of in The Open Championship.

But if I were to pick I'd say the Tour Championship.

For those who no longer consider the US Amateur a major, that would be my choice. In fact, I would bet that if Nicklaus, Woods, Palmer had to give up any major win, the Am would be the last one they would give up.

i predict tiger's tourney will be VERY big very soon....i have been to it and US open's and it has the feel of one. you really can't beat congressional.....great tournament course....i think the tourney will really take off especially after they host the open at Congressional......when i went, there were over 30000 people on both thursday and friday and over 40K on sat and sunday.....it was loud and exciting

in my bag
driver: r9 with Fujikura Motore 65g stiff shaft
3w-5w: Sz with stock shafts (aldila hm) stiff
irons(3-pw): s59 stiff
wedges: 52deg. rac satin vokey spin milled 56deg. putter: xg9ball: b330rx

In my mind, the US Open and British Open are in a league by themselves.
Then, the Masters with the PGA limping to the finish.

I like the Memorial, Colonial, Heritage, Bay Hill, and The Mercedez in Hawaii.

US and British Amateurs.

The Dubai World Championship has the largest purse of 10 million.

I've always personally ranked the majors as:

1-British open ( started it all)
2-US Open
3-Us Amateur/British Amateur
4-PGA
5-Masters
6-TPC
7-memorial

I love the Masters too, I guess since it is the "baby" of the majors in terms of age and I'm kinda a traditionalist.

I will say Ive always felt the Amateur is a major like Tiger, Jack, Arnie, Phil and most of the pros do. It is actually older than the US Open, even if only by a hair

Gotcha. Yeah that's true. I don't know what it is about The Masters, but it just gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. Seeing the course in person this year only added to that feeling.

I've always personally ranked the majors as:

You rate the Amateur and PGA above the Masters? How could you possibly come to such a conclusion. Obviously not from speaking with the players.

In my bag:

Driver: SQ 9.5, Graphite Stiff Shaft
3 Wood: Diablo 13 degree, Stiff Shaft
2 Hybrid: SQ 18 degree, Steel Stiff ShaftIrons: MP-30, 3-PWSW: 56* Vokey Copper spin-milledFW 52* VokeyFlat Stick Zing 2Ball: Pro V1x

1. The Open
2. The US Open
3. The Masters

After that, I like the Ryder Cup. The PGA and three or four others are all pretty special.

I think you have to limit the list to Tourney's that Tiger plays. Otherwise he wouldn't be there. That being said, I'm going to say:

1) Memorial
2) Bay Hill
3) Accenture?

Great thread topic by the way. The tournaments definately change over the years. I remember years ago when the Western Open was practically the 5th major.

In my bag:

Driver: SQ 9.5, Graphite Stiff Shaft
3 Wood: Diablo 13 degree, Stiff Shaft
2 Hybrid: SQ 18 degree, Steel Stiff ShaftIrons: MP-30, 3-PWSW: 56* Vokey Copper spin-milledFW 52* VokeyFlat Stick Zing 2Ball: Pro V1x

The Tour Championship used to be bigger, but with the Fed Ex,it seems a little anti-climactic.

Bay Hill, Hilton Head, and Memorial are big, and i can say up here in Boston, The Deusche Bank at TPC Boston is big.

Also FBR, the Buick invitational (at Torry Pines), Northern Trust (Riviera), and the Honda

In addition to the majors, the amateurs, The Players, the WGCs, and the Ryder/Presidents Cups.

In my bag:

Driver: Titleist TSi3 | 15º 3-Wood: Ping G410 | 17º 2-Hybrid: Ping G410 | 19º 3-Iron: TaylorMade GAPR Lo |4-PW Irons: Nike VR Pro Combo | 54º SW, 60º LW: Titleist Vokey SM8 | Putter: Odyssey Toulon Las Vegas H7

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Probably the European BMW PGA. That tourament is a big deal to them across the pond.

i'm going to x2 and agree with this. Love watching this tourney.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
