Does anyone know where to go online to find a leaderboard for the US Open Sectional Qualifying? I've got a buddy playing in Columbus,OH. I know its almost 1:00 p.m., but his 2nd round starts in about an hour. Any help is appreciated!

This probably won't be updated until tomorrow, but in a quick search, it's all I really found.

Other notable qualifiers from Monday's sectionals that have been posted at the USGA website thus far:
  • Matt Kuchar, the 1997 U.S. Amateur champion, won his section at Hawk's Ridge near Atlanta, one day after his season-best 5th place at the Memorial.
  • Texas A&M;'s Bronson Burgoon, whose wedge shot to a foot clinched his team's NCAA title at Inverness last week, finished second in Dallas to stamp his ticket to Bethpage; a feature on him by ESPN or NBC during Open week is almost guaranteed.
  • George McNeill, Bo Van Pelt, Charl Schwarzel, Lucas Glover, J.B. Holmes, Ryan Moore, Tom Lehman, Ben Crane, John Mallinger, Matt Bettencourt, Ricky Barnes, Rickie Fowler, and James Nitties all stayed in Columbus after the Memorial to qualify alongside Duval. Nitties was the only player to advance out of a tiebreaker that included John Senden, Dean Wilson, Chris DiMarco, Steve Marino, Fredrik Jacobson, John Rollins, Brett Quigley, and some guy named Matthew Donovan: there's that Big Break experience paying off for him!

You know, I have to wonder how it feels for some college player or mini-tour hacker to make it through local qualifying, only to learn he's been placed in the Columbus (or that year's equivalent) sectional, where the field is more accomplished than a lot of PGA Tour events. Look at a lot of the names that didn't make the show out of Columbus. Yikes!

A few more notable qualifiers from the late-reporting sectionals...
  • Charlie Wi won his section in Somis, CA.
  • 2007 Brit Am winner Drew Weaver and Fred Funk were among those making it out of Rockville, MD.
  • The list of qualifiers in Memphis' sectional full of pros coming to town early for the St. Jude included Casey Wittenberg, J.J. Henry, Martin Laird, Cameron Beckman, J.P. Hayes, and Greg Kraft.
Upon further investigation, it appears that TST's local qualifier MiniMoe finished six shots out of a qualifying spot in Dallas...but enough to finish even with Ryan Palmer, and a full five shots ahead of Notah Begay III.

A buddy and I went out and watched Sectionals at Saticoy CC, where Charlie Wi passed. We followed his group for a bit. Found out from his caddy that he started his day 5-over after five, but finished the round 1-under. Pretty awesome, particularly since the course only yielded a handful of subpar rounds. on the day.

Here's the leaderboard

That is the most stacked section ever. Imagine the confidence though if you could qualify in that section. Those people(who aren't on tour, yet qualified) have to feel like they could win a tour event, as they beat around 20-30 tour players.

As in Kyle Stanley, a collegiate player at Clemson and two-time Southern Amateur champion? The kid shot a 62 on the first 18 and was able to coast to an entry to Bethpage. Or James Kamte, the first great black South African golfer to emerge since Vincent Tshabalala won the French Open over 30 years ago? Once again, there's a guaranteed ESPN/NBC feature during the weekend telecasts.

I mentioned it a few posts ago. Six shots out of a qualifying spot, but better than a few Tour winners.

Wow...what a field! Nice to see a couple of guys I know make it (Matt Bettencourt & Ricky Barnes)

Ricky has been struggling a bit this year, nice to see him make the cut at the Nelson and now qualify for Bethpage. Matt follows up a top 5 at the Memorial, under the grind of playing in the final group on Sunday, to shoot a 64 on the 2nd round of the day the following day. Very impressive!

    • I think there's a difference between taking time over the ball and taking time to play a shot, at least IMO. One thing I've noticed in a few guys I play with who take a long time over the ball to pull the trigger, is that their backswing is really fast and I think it makes it harder to have a smooth rhythmic down swing. It's almost like they take so long to swing that when they do they speed to catch up. Doesn't lead to good golf IMO.

    • As long as it's from a reputable seller it should be just fine. Just make sure the picture of the weight looks the right shaped weight for that specific driver head. You can even weigh it yourself when you get it if you want to be extra sure. Personally I don't consider $15 for something that can greatly change your impact and delivery characteristics to be "not cheap" but that's just my opinion. Especially since you know it's bringing it closer to what you were fit into and you're already saving a bunch of money by going the used/prior model year route too.
