How do the pros get their logos on their hats and shirts?

I am curious, where do the pros get their logos on their hats and shirts? I know that some of the hats are normal hats like anyone can buy, but others have a mixture of logos that did not come that way from the factory.

Like when Freddie wears an Ashworth shirt with a Cadillac logo.

I know that there are tour vans that do club and shaft and grip fitting. Are there vans that put on the logos? Does a pro show up at an event and find x number of balls, y number of gloves, z number of hats, and z number of shirts ready to go in a locker or meet someone in a hotel room or tent? Does Ernie show up somewhere with a box of shirts he got from one vendor, and hats that he gets from another vendor, and a lady or gentleman sits and puts SAP on all of them for him?

Are there "artist relations" type people from each sponsor that works all this stuff out?

I always wanted to know this type of stuff.

Let me know if you know.

Thanks,

Tim

I know how the logo machine works. I have watched them put stuff on hats and shirts at the mall, I am not asking about the technology, I am interested in how it happens.

My best guess is that the player has the hats and shirts that they will use for the year/month/week whatever, and has someone put the company logo on them. Probably not a difficult process, just need to find someone to do it. They may even send the shirts/hats to that sponsoring company and they take care of it.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

The PGA owns and operates a Guatemalan textile sweat-shop which is set up specifically to handle the sewing of logos on both hats and shirts for all Tour players. The good news is that the facility is located on the grounds of a Pete Dye designed golf course, and the sweat-shop employees get discounted greens fees after club hours.

Do they play with out the backdoor clubs sold in Hong Kong? or do they get a 10% discount in the PGA store?

i dont know how they do it but i found a cool Bridgestone golf shirt on Ebay a few years ago that had Bridgestone Golf on the chest, a Precept logo on the side of the collar, and another Precept logo on one of the sleeves. never seen one like that before.

I had the opportunity to visit the Taylor Made tour van a few weeks ago... Besides all of the clubs they had stacks of visors, hats, and shirts in one of the closets inside the van... At least 20-25 of the hats that Mike Weir (Weir Golf on the side)wears were in there... I didn't ask but I'm sure he just walks in and gets a new one when he needs it...

I wonder how many pink visors the Ping van carries for Bubba Watson.

I was very specific that I understand the mechanical process of putting logos on material, but I am very curious how this works on tour. For example, I saw a picture of Ernie Els wearing a shirt that had SAP on the left breast logo position, and Mercedes Benz on the right sleeve. And you would think that it would have been an Adidas shirt. So there is some person in the background who is either sending shirts to SAP and then to Mercedes Benz, or there is an embroiderer who has both those logos in their computer and Ernie sends his shirts to that vendor with his contract requirements.

It is ok with me if you don't think about this kind of stuff, but I do.

I absolutely do understand this part. I know that different positions have different values. I remember that part of Phil M's new contract a few years ago was that he had to start wearing a hat with his new sponsors logo, to make the type of money that they were willing to pay.

Pro golfers have Agents like other pro athletes, for things like contract negotiations and finding endorsement deals.

I would assume the Agent (the firm) would be the "single point of contact," responsible for gathering the clothing and the logos, attaching everything together, and delivering them to the venues each week.

For someone like Tiger who has only a single sponsor on his clothing, Nike probably takes the reins and delivers everything to each venue. No need for IMG (Tiger's agency) to be involved.

I used to work for the Greg Norman Collection so I am sure it works everywhere else how it worked there. We had Vantage apparel do our embroidery for us. Logo's would be sent to us and we would have them digitized and set up on machines to emboider on our shirts. We could them ship embroidered shirts anywhere from several Vantage locations. Fairly certain every company is hooked up with some large embroiderer to take care of their needs.

I'm sorry, but I'm so confused. The TT says " How do the pros get their logos on their hats and shirts" Then when someone says with an embroiderer you flame them.

A quote from Kris
...is that college bball really isn't "lower tier". The better teams have their rosters filled with guys who could play in the NBA. hell, guys used to come straight from high school to the NBA. I really don't think there's much of a difference skill-wise between the two.

I'm still tring to figure out where pros and teachers get those awesome Callaway straw hats. Us mere mortals cant seem to find any.

    • I speak for myself. If I inventory my swing thoughts, swing tempo, optimum muscle tension and rehearse a swing before I take my address, then I pull the trigger reasonably quickly with usually acceptable results. Like a proper program download before deploying it. If I don't bother to by forgetting or just not caring, I am inclined to look for my cues while hovering over the ball after taking the address, while tension builds up and then I fire with a half ass program that is still buffering. I guess that's no better than rolling a dice. In other words, a good pre-shot routine does wonders. I am not advising folks to take 13 practice swings while the flowers wilt waiting for something to happen, but one or maybe two are reasonable and good for you. I am certain hitting half ass shitty shots and making double bogey takes longer than making a par.  My desire this year is to just that as I have not developed a habit taking a practice swing and as a result have tendency to freeze over the ball after address, that is counter productive for both time and result. I think that is what @saevel25 is talking about in the OP.

    • I think there's a difference between taking time over the ball and taking time to play a shot, at least IMO. One thing I've noticed in a few guys I play with who take a long time over the ball to pull the trigger, is that their backswing is really fast and I think it makes it harder to have a smooth rhythmic down swing. It's almost like they take so long to swing that when they do they speed to catch up. Doesn't lead to good golf IMO.

    • As long as it's from a reputable seller it should be just fine. Just make sure the picture of the weight looks the right shaped weight for that specific driver head. You can even weigh it yourself when you get it if you want to be extra sure. Personally I don't consider $15 for something that can greatly change your impact and delivery characteristics to be "not cheap" but that's just my opinion. Especially since you know it's bringing it closer to what you were fit into and you're already saving a bunch of money by going the used/prior model year route too.
