I really don't know how to put this into a question, so I'll give an example.

Say I'm using Nike irons (oh look, I am). Would they work better (I'm not saying dramatically), with Nike balls?

Are clubs made to work better with their own brand of balls? Or are they meant to be the same with every ball? I think I know the answer to this question but I'm just trying to make sure. I was just wondering if they tested their clubs against their own balls also. I'd like to get the answer to this from people who are educated in the equipment field, or have seen anything relating to this? Thanks.

When Odyssey brought out the White Hot putter with the white insert, they said it was made out of the same material as one of their (callaway) balls. And recommended that you put like with like. I do remember getting a nice soft feeling and great sound (but no more than with a Titleist Professional 90!)

Ok thanks. I was thinking along the lines of irons/ driver, but that helps.

I

No.

Not only is the answer no, but the manufacturers are smart enough not to pretend that it is the case.

No.

Well sometimes they want some more business, so they may make their clubs to work better with their balls to get more people to buy their product.

I never thought a brand would do this. I think if someone thinks its better and can feel it, I think its just mental.
I read a bunch of people saying how much better a Nike MOJO ball performed with a Nike driver.

As for the Odyssey thing, that was bogus because the Callaway ball they were compaing the mateials to was made of Urathane, just like every other ball over $30.

They always want more business.

They DO NOT "make their clubs work better with their balls". My point is that they don't even PRETEND to because it would be so ridiculously bogus. Why have you said that they have? Apart from the Odyssey BS.

I wouldn't believe it because what about the results of ball fittings... Say one is swinging a taylormade driver at his ball fitting and gets the best results with a nike ball

Isn't that almost impossible to do, anyway? Unless you make either a ball or club that would be almost unplayable with another company's club/ball.

Ok well as I stated, it was just a question. I also stated that I pretty much knew the answer (that it wasn't true), but just wanted some background on it because I did hear about the odyssey thing. Thanks for your replies.

I could see the development performed with their own golf balls due to $ savings; an endless supply of balls at cost would help the budget. I also think that it would be prohibitively expensive to test products with ALL balls on the market. Probably just some testing with the most popular and/or best sellers.

No difference. The clubs dont know what ball you are hitting and vice versa. Besides, if you use high-end Nike balls you are playing Bridgestones anyways (because Nike's high-end balls are made in Japan by Bridgestone)...

Just because they outsource the actual manufacturing doesn't mean "you're hitting a Bridgestone." The R&D;, the patents, the research, etc. are still Nike.

But yeah, as everyone else has said, "brand with brand" doesn't matter.
