Amarillo, Texas has two golf complexes that both have 2 courses.
Also, Tyler, Texas. If you ever have a chance to play twin lakes around Canton, do so. Garden Valley in Van is awesome too.

Spokane, WA. Great summer weather and many good, cheap city and county operated tracks.

My folks live in Spokane (Liberty Lakes), and its great up there. The BEST is 30 minutes outside of Spokane in Coeur d'Alene Idaho. They have 3 TOP NOTCH courses there.

The Club at BlackRock - #27 in the country, but is as private as can be. The Coeur d'Alene Resort - #75 on top 100 public. The one and only "Floating Green". Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful! Circling Raven - #61 on top 100 public. Also #3 in the country on casino/golf combination.

Ireland

How's Ireland a ''sleeper city?" not to bust your balls or anything, but Ireland's only a boat ride away from where golf was invented, so you guys are bound to have some wonderful old courses. not to mention, it's a country.

Yes we do have some wonderful old courses due to our proximity with Scotland but where do people go on golfing trips? Scotland.

As for the dispute over city/ country terminology- there are 3.8m people in Ireland compared to 12m in New York and I'll bet Ireland could fit into texas it is that small. So by basing yourself in the middle of the country every course is within 150 miles. But if you want me to name a random city, Dublin.

The Milwaukee area has some great courses but I wouldn't call it a sleeper anymore as it's pretty much a pretty big golf destination in the summer now. A few courses here feature a PGA event every year, one is going on its second PGA Championship and has a Ryder Cup coming up. Another is featuring the US Amateurs and has featured the US Women's Open and World Championship of Golf and is owned by the man who runs the hotels at St. Andrews now.

Brown Deer: Municipal that has had a PGA event for years. Great public course.

Whistling Straights: Hosts its second PGA Championship next year and third in 2015 (ya, its here to stay), Us Senior Open and has a Ryder Cup in 10 years. (and the other course on site, the Irish course, some say is even better!!)

Black Wolf Run: Held US Womens Open recently.

Erin Hills: Holding US Amateurs next year and in talks with USGA about a US Open in the next 10 years and I've read in Golf Magazine that it's a lock for 2017. Amazing, amazing course and almost 100% natural. It's an amazing course, I'm telling you.

All this has happened within the last few years and it's just exploding here. And all the courses are within an hour from the city of Milwaukee. All these courses are open for public play as well.

North Tampa Bay ... by far...

World Woods has 2 ranked (USA) courses.. No homes .. just rolling hills... We play for $26.00 -- Can anyone top that? Pine Barrens is ranked iin the top 100 in every major golf mag.

Also, we have Juliet Falls ($32.00) a new comer on the ranking list.

How much does it cost to play those ranked Michigan courses???

Salt Lake City Utah, Portland Oregon and Seattle Washington are my choices for sleeper cities for good golf courses with reasonable greens fees.

Depends on where, but there are a lot weekend stay & play deals floating around. Golf is down for obvious reasons.

Ya know, I have looked up and down many of the top 100's lists, and still can't find any with Pine Barrens on them. Let alone any from Tampa.

ok, so I found World Woods on a ranking. It is #46 on the top 100 public courses in the US, but nowhere close on the actual top 100.

Columbus, GA and surrounding areas have some nice ones. Callaway Gardens has two courses, one is where the Buick Challenge was played until '03 or '04. Bull Creek used to be a top 25 course I hear and also has 2 courses to play. There are also 2 separate country club courses that are well kept, and 3-4 neighborhood courses that are all worth playing.

Plymouth, MA has some really nice courses (including Pinehills). They're tearing down Waverly Oaks to build a movie studio but Crosswinds is still right next door. It's just like playing down the cape, only not as far, or as expensive.

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
