I would much rather hit it thin and let it roll. Hitting it fat never goes as far for me and I have made counltess good scores on holes where I thin a shot.

Also would like to add - you'd be surprised at how much spin is still imparted on the ball when you thin it. If only I had a dime for every time I thought it was gonna just zoom across the green but ended up biting enough to stick.

That's right. This is well-known on tour. That's why you'll hear Jim Furyk recommend opening the clubface for more spin. You get the added loft for sure, but it also raises the leading edge which makes it contact the ball ever so slightly higher (thinner). This puts some serious spin on the ball. I remember hitting a chip thin across the green that bounced once, bit and left me a 2-footer. Everybody started watching me play after I hit that shot. I didn't tell them it was an accident

only time hitting it thin would be worse is once your close to the green. don't want to go flying past the green and eating a penalty stroke.

Fat for greenside and thin for everything else. Yesterday, I hit my hybrid thin where it started rolling 50 yards from me. That ball ended up on the fringe and I successfully converted the birdie! The worst fat shots are after a monster drive, you have 30-50 yards and you take a chunk out of the fairway and still end up way short...
