  1. 1. If you had to choose a single wedge, which would it be?

    • 52 degree wedge

    • 56 degree wedge
      52
    • 60 degree wedge
      11

Dear Forum

Imagine that you have a set of clubs 3-P but no wedge and you would only want to buy one wedge. Which wedge would you choose and why? Which bounce would you choose?

Because the above is exactly my current situation, I would highly appreciate your answers to help me with my predicament.

Thank you

I too have a 54º and love it. I also have a 60º but hated using it so i bought this 54º and haven't used my 60º since.

I'd go with 54 or 56, so I voted 56 since there were no 54 in the poll.

It's a club you can chip with, flop with, use from bunkers, and hit from 100 and in. If you are good with the club, delofting it can give you some extra distance when needed.

I would probably go with a 54* with 10* of bounce or so. I currently carry a 51 and 56, but if I was to only carry one I would split the difference and go 54*. I used to carry 50, 54, 58, but switched to 51, 56 when I got my new set. A 54 with 10-12* of bounce still is a good club our of greenside bunkers, but also works well for approaches inside 100 yards and for those non-full swing shots as well. A 52 would be difficult out of sand and a 56 and 60 would probably leave too much of a distance gap and lead to you trying to swing too hard on short approaches.

Same for me, doesn't have much bounce and I would have to practice from the sand with it.

Yeah, wanna make 14 dollars the hard way?

Id go with a 56*. Its the most versatile club for shots around the green.

Oddly, it would be a 52* gap wedge and I don't even carry one... sux to be poor.

56* or 54*
I currently carry a 56* and a 58*, but the latter is really useless, I never use it.

My answer would have to be a 52*, I hit mine all the time and in any situation that calls. I have huge amount of confidence swinging that club.

Hey, a brand new Acuity 52* Gap Wedge is $20 at Golf Galaxy. I replaced mine with a Vokey but didn't really need to, it's a great club.

Also-I vote for a 52*. I like hitting a 58* or a 60*, but the 52* is the most versatile. Full swings go 105-120 depending on the fullness of the swing, half swings 55-65, and really useful for pitching. My 52* has 8 degrees of bounce, and opened up slightly it's great for hitting flop shots or out of the sand.

Thank you for all your replies. Meanwhile, after reading your comments and doing some research, I'm leaning towards a 54.08 wedge.

At one point I started to look at the lofts of my two Club-Sets and noticed, that on the set I would like to get a wedge for, the PW is actually 48 degrees (as opposed to 46 on the MX-25s, for which I have a 52° and 56° wedge). Therefore I thought 54 would make sense.

About the bounce I'm still unsure. Maybe it should be something more than 8 - 10 I reckon wouldn't be too bad since the club will have to serve as a sand wedge as well.

So, any thoughts on the remaining issue of bounce? What is the one-size-fits-all-purposes bounce?

I see you've got a 51 and 56 in your bag right now, why are you throwing these out?

With 48º PW I'd go with 56.10 If it's your only wedge, you may want some bounce on it to make it more versatile.

I'm not throwing them out. They are in my MX-25 set at home, while I have a used MP-33 set which I want to take with me while I'm away from home during the week. I have an old putter that can go with it but a wedge is still missing. Because I don't want to spend too much (don't know how often I'm actually going to be able to play), I don't want to buy more than one wedge.

Additionally, this is a nice opportunity for me to get to know another wedge manufacturer. I'm strongly leaning towards a vokey oil can, possibly also a black cleveland.
