I could care less if Tiger missed the cut

How much less could you care? A little? A lot?

D'oh! Tiger should still be working with me instead of ol' Hanky the Christmas Poo. Haney had the driver yips and now Tiger's "stuck" with them too, but they've worked their way into his other woods and his long-irons too. Anything and everything from the tee.

tiger missing the cut does not surpise me. He isn't swinging the club consistently enough to contend on a really tight course when the wind is blowing hard. He might be able to win tournaments on wide open courses on the US PGA tour on target golf like tracks but not on a course where accuracy really is important. I was surprised at how bad his course management was at times. He should have left his driver in the bag.

I don't really see why people claim Turnberry is extremely narrow...I'm just not seeing that on T.V. Looks fairly open to me.

And I didn't see him hit too many bad drivers. He hit a lot of bad 5 woods today.

He's missed 4 cuts as a professional. 4. Big deal if he missed one cut. I guarantee that he'll win by 6 shots in the next tournament he plays in. He's still my favorite at Hazeltine.

it looked to me that his biggest problem was distance control in the wind. Even on the times that he hit fairways or got decent lies in the light rough he seemed to be firing the ball way over the pins, sometimes even over the greens. Coming from Scotland, the commentators made that weather out to be much worse than it was. I was there and it seemed like a pretty average days weather for a links golf course. They all should have played better than that. Guys like Poulter, Curtis etc were just a joke

Tiger missing the cut will be a bad thing because it will result is far lower TV ratings. TV ratings are usually much higher when Tiger is contending for the win.

The count is higher than that... It's either five or six, depending on how you count.

1997 Canadian Open 2005 Byron Nelson Championship, Disney 2006 U.S. Open. 2009 British Open There was also one with the AT&T;, but I think he simply failed to return to complete his round or something like that... But it's at least five.

This is actually what I was going to say. He's probably extremely embarrassed. It wouldn't surprise me if he parlays that humiliation to the kind of fire and focus that wins next month's PGA by about eight strokes.

Humiliated and embarrassed? How so? Every golf player miss the cut once in a while. He doesn't care what people think, he's probably annyoed that he didn't play good enough to catch the cut. His focus is on his swing and his game only, what everyone else does is irrelevant. He didn't play well enough this tournament and will probably try to find out what went wrong and correct it. One week he wins a tournament, another he miss the cut. Gof is a streaky sport, even for the worlds best.

This is his 5th missed cut as a professional, 13th through his career.

So all that talk last year about how Padraig's victories are devalued were totally unfounded. Perhaps commentators will start to talk about Tiger in a realistic way. On the BBC when Tiger made the putt on 16 for a bird some droning commentator said "he is just amasing!" yeah right he's a genius at 6 over.

Clearly he isn't as good as everyone makes out, no way near what Nicklaus was. There can be no excuses for his performance this week; Turnberry will never play easier than it did yesterday and frankly it wasn't exactly viscious today. He's been fit for months now and had nearly a year to exclusively work on his short game.

Nicklaus won what he did against a stellar field, a once in a lifetime crop of genius golfers, Tiger's been pitted against a fairly ordinary field for 15 years now. Perhaps they're starting to get their acts together, by the way my money's on Westwood.

Yeah, Nicklaus never missed a cut

A quote from Kris
...is that college bball really isn't "lower tier". The better teams have their rosters filled with guys who could play in the NBA. hell, guys used to come straight from high school to the NBA. I really don't think there's much of a difference skill-wise between the two.

Overreact much? The guy missed a cut, lets not poo poo on his extraordinary career. Yes Jack played against some legends, but Golf is much more competitive now and it is much harder to stand out (i.e. win multiple majors).

I wasn't basing my claim only on the pitiful performance this week, just one in a catalogue of chinks in his armour. I'm not even saying he's not the best golfer in the world, he probably is, even on current form. My objection (if you actually read my post "mate") is the way he's revered like some kind of deity. Commentators, magazine journalists and posters on this site are under the missapprehension that we're alive in the time of the great one, we're not.

How do you know this when Tiger has yet to end his career? If not by amount of trophies, how can you judge who's the best golfer through the history?

He may not have caught up with Jack yet, but he's only 5 wins on the PGA Tour from surpassing him, and 14 from Sam Snead. Tiger has won 14 majors so far, Jack won a total of 18.
Tiger's been the dominant player in the world of golf from the day he became a professional in 1996. He's been ranked #1 on the money list in 9 of 14 years.

Still he's only 33 years old!

    • I mean there has to be some thought. For eg., something like 'soft knees and wrists' at set up and maybe a dynamic 'left arm to chin' as a trigger to start DS. I have these one or two anchor thoughts and have served me well. In fact, my wildest swings are the one where I have no thoughts or if I forget to walk thru my anchor thoughts. In contrast my best rounds are where I am consistent with the anchor thoughts.    OTOH, if I am running my entire half hour lesson (hypothetical) with some pro that I had last Saturday or whatever before every swing then I'm probably in trouble before I even get over the ball.
    • Two bits. Bit 1 The NCAA's appeal of Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction will not be heard until February, so there will be nothing to prevent Sorsby from playing the full season and potential CFP.  Bit 2 The Big Ten Conference will hold a meeting and is expected to ban all of its athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the regular season. Georgia has done the same. The SEC will meet to consider a similar ban. Fellow Big 12 members TCU and Kansas State are spearheading a similar ban, but the conference charter might not allow it. Meanwhile, Big 12 athletic directors are meeting this week to explore what options the conference might have.
    • No, but I'm also in disagreement that golfers have no thoughts over the golf ball, and/or don't ever think I've met someone I truly believe is thinking nothing but "target" or something on most shots.
    • StuM,  I have, in the past, added a left handed club. (Ususally a 7 iron) However, I usually take a stroke penalty and move the ball to where I want it.  I play for fun and in a pinch can use theback side if my club if I don't want the penalty stroke.    RetiredOldMan,  Terry
    • So, Brendan Sorsby, Texas Tech transfer QB, was found guilty of sports betting by the NCAA. He admitted to it. He placed thousands of bets over multiple years while at Indiana and Cincinnati. This included betting on his own teams.  The NCAA rules ban athletes from betting on any sport (college or pro).  A retired visiting judge from Tarrant County, Texas has put an injunction on the NCAA ruling. He is a visiting judge because the first judge was a graduate and big fan of Texas Tech, and he recused himself. The judged ruled the following... "Under Curry's order, Sorsby is permitted to play for Texas Tech's 2026 season on the condition that he continues his treatment for a gambling and anxiety disorder and serves a two-game suspension (missing games against Abilene Christian and Oregon State)."  Don't get me wrong, I don't particularly care for the NCAA. That still doesn't mean that a college can choose when or where to say, "Yea we agree to these rules for all our sports, well except in this case." Here is a breakdown from S&W. The Hidden Weapon in Sorsby’s Injunction: How a Lubbock County Court Order Quietly Neutralized the NCAA’s Most Powerful Enforcement Tool - Law Offices of Snell & Wilmer By Ryan J. Regula On June 8, 2026, Lubbock County District Court Judge Ken Curry issued a temporary injunction in Brendan Sorsby v. National Collegiate Athletic Association, Cause No. DC-2026-CV-0791 (99th Judicial District... The main judgement made sense. Sorsby, I am going to have all this harm done to me if I don't get to play. The Judge, I agree. The penalty for gambling is too harsh, so here are all these things you must do, and I will grant this injunction against the NCAA. Basically, an analogy would be when a person goes into court for a DUI and they agree to all these other things to not end up in jail.  What sucks for the NCAA is the NCAA has appealed to Texas’ Seventh Court of Appeals, based in Amarillo. All four justices that preside over the court are graduates of Texas Tech University School of Law. It would be hilarious if all four of them had to recuse themselves 🤣. For those who like to read legal rulings...
