  1. 1. How/When do you yell "FORE!"

    • Never. Golf is dangerous - too bad if you get hit.

    • Rarely. I get dazed watching the ball and forget to yell.

    • I yell FORE, but always far too late to be useful.

    • I yell FORE when needed, and on time.

    • I even yell FORE if someone else in my foursome forgets to!

Do you do it.? I do. At my local course there are quite a few greens in close proximity to the following tees. I think the pros are very bad at this,I see them raising their arms and pointing left or right but is this enough?

I yell it to a fault. Any time a ball is going off line anywhere I'm going to lose sight of it and I either know people might be there or I'm not sure. I also tend to do it for other people in my group if they don't yell it as soon as the shot is looking like trouble. I definitely overdo it, but I'm cautious by nature, so it feels right.

Edit: I realized a bit late, but I had a hunch and searched, and I think this thread may be redundant with this old thread:

The pros do this because fans are lining the fairway and (at least some) are watching the pros hit. When a ball may land outside the first cut of rough, the pro gives a hand signal to that side; likewise, the hole spotter behind the tee box gives a signal with the hand-held paddle.

I've volunteered at some tournaments, and this is standard procedure for both tour and major amateur events.

For everyday golf, yell "Fore" to give people a warning. Remember, you are signalling other golfers who are engrossed in their own game and probably not looking at you hit.
