I noticed on days I play poorly I end up getting a big blister (more like a peice of skin torn off) on the bottom side of my right index finger, where my left pinky touches it (i use interlock grip). Could I be gripping wrong or holding to tightly or loose to cause this? and would this effect where my shots are going? I tend to hook badly on bad days

Right grip, stance and allignment are 80% of the success. So you have to be sure that's everuthing ok with your grip.
Check this.
If it's ok, there's a possibility that you grip it too hard. This often cause terrible hooks.

I have had the same problem. Try gripping it a little more loose, i learned that the hard way, for me the blisters acted as a sort of shock therapy and I had no choice! lol. The best way I've ever heard it put is that you should pretend you're holding a bottle of toothpaste with no cap upside down, and through your whole swing you should never squeeze any out.

Your profile says that you play right handed, is that correct?

If so, your left pinky shouldn't come anywhere near your right index finger with an interlocking grip. Your right pinky should be interlocking with your left index finger......i.e., your right hand should be lower on the club than your left. Is that how you're gripping the club, or are you somehow holding the club with your left hand lower?

I believe blisters are generally the result of having an incorrect grip, changing your grip mid swing, or changing your grip presure mid swing - something that would cause your hands to change position on the club while swinging. Ideally, (I think) you want to have your hands contact the club in the same manner through the whole swing.

sorry, i totally messed that up somehow haha I meant blister on the bottom of my right

ring finger where my left index finger touches haha must have had a brainfart while posting that. but I'm thinking that Im gripping way to tightly if you are supposed to treat it like a toothpaste bottle. I treat it more like a baseball bat. I'll try a looser grip

Yeah, I had that problem too, but this is honestly the best thing i have heard. It feels a little weird at first, almost like the club is going to fly out of your hands but as long as you're not whipping your arms its highly unlikely.

For what it's worth if you have an open blister...grab a pickle jar, steal some of the juice and soak the blister in it...it'll burn like hell for the first minute or so but let it sit for about 10-15 mins...do it twice a day for about 3 days and it'll be nice and firm for ya...(did it when i pitched in florida for spring training in college on my index and middle fingers)

Either way blisters are 99% caused by grip pressure. After coming back from not playing I had blisters and sore/stiff hands after every round/practice session. Then I read somewhere that the grip should be "like holding two baby birds". I starting to think about this during my practices and was amazed at how "loose" your grip could be and still control the club. Needless to say, I made this change and my hands are a lot less sore and I only get blisters if I hit a couple hundred or so balls at a time.

    • Day 56 - 2024-11-15 Light day. Lots of catch-up work. Checked the grip to make sure I wasn't compensating there, and did a little backswing work.
    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
