I was watching some of the Cox Classic this morning and they said that Tadd was averaging 314 yards off the tee....he is only 5'1" tall!! That sure gives me a lot of hope!

How much roll is he getting? I'm guessing a lot. Tad can probably carry it out there 275-280 (maybe) but he's getting a lot of roll to get it out there to 314.

no chance in hell.

Under normal conditions he'll carry it maybe 230 in the air.

280 carry is about the amount of carry tiger gets.

Golf is a game in which the ball always lies poorly and the player always lies well.

Tadd is averaging 286.5 in PGA events and 317 in Nationwide events. I think that 314 sounds resonable.

Even so, that is some serious distance for his height.

no chance in hell.

No chance? Why no chance? This isn't something that me and some buddies were talking about. This is a legit statistic reported by the Golf channel.

This stat refers to the Cox classic only guys....not his over all average. I think it is very believable

WOW!!! 314 yds! That's a "tadd" far!!!

no chance in hell.

There are a lot of guys that carry it over 300 with some regularity. I really don't think you can be a professional golfer and be any kind of successful if you only carry the ball 230. Aside from that, it's obviously not true. Unless he averages 56.5 yards of roll per drive.

He hasn't proven to be a successful pro by any means. But I am sure he is carrying it at least 260. I am sure it was playing fast. A 260 carry is a big carry for 99% of people and he is probably flying it farther than that. And only 5.1. He must have some really fast hands/hips.

Well, relatively successful. What is he, 18 years old? And playing in PGA Tour/Nationwide Tour events? He definitely hasn't had too many good finishes yet though, that's for sure.

At that height, hitting it that far, he is clearly a very efficient swinger of the golf club. Hitting it dead center on the clubface helps too.

There are a lot of guys that carry it over 300 with some regularity.

There are some guys that hit it 300 or over (total distance) but very few that actually carry it 300 yards. The driving stats on the PGA Tour have 13 players averaging 300 yards or over, but that's not carry.

Carrying a ball 300 yards is huge.

I don't think many people (if any) actually average a carry of 300 yards, I'm just saying a lot of those guys do it on a daily basis. I don't think there's anyone who does it every time.

I don't think it's as rare as you think. If I can do it, surely the guys on tour can too. ^The operative word there is CAN. I CAN also hit it 260 into the trees.

I was out there a couple of times this week. These are bent grass fairways, so even though we have had a cool July with adequate rain, roll was good, winds were mild and they could go pretty much full bore. This is as close as you are going to get to a links course away from the coast, except maybe our sandhills area. Without wind this course is defenselless. I watched him a bit. He swings very agressively, even for a pro, and he does have fast hands. My guess is that he carries the ball 265-270, maybe 275 max.

So what you are saying is that the Golf Channel just straight up lied on national t.v. in front of all the fans? Give me break. The guy was ranked 5th in driving distance at the Cox Classic this week with 317.1 yards...get over it...he did it.

Here are his numbers for all four rounds...unless of course you think that PGATOUR.com is lying too. The last number being his average.
DRIVING DISTANCE 327.0 301.0 316.5 324.0 317.1 5

Psst... dude. Check which quote I was responding to before you jump all over me.

I was responding to this suggestion below that he ONLY carries the ball 230. Therefore, the sarcasm about him averaging 50 yards of roll (which he would have to be getting to arrive at the 286.5 yards that he is averaging in driving this season). I was actually agreeing with you.

I apologize then. Sorry for the confusion.

No worries. Everything about someone who is 5'1" hitting the ball that far is confusing.

    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
    • Good advice, but according to DSG website it is a 45 compression ball. My current ball is the Top-flite Gamer at 70. 45 is too low for me to go.
    • The 3 piece Maxfli Trifli is 2 dozen for $35.  The Trifli does not feel as soft as the Maxfli Softfli, which is why I like it. Other options would be one of the Srixons, which have a buy 2 get 1 free offer.
    • I have been carrying a 7 wood more often this year.  It’s especially handy if you have a downhill lie to an uphill green.  It’s also handy if the rough on the course is deep.
