I don't want to call foul... I am just interested in getting a little more background information...

Yeh i have to agree that my score today was a very lucky one. Onces more scores are posted, my handicap will probably raise. Yes i am comming from a like of sports (played school basketball for 9 years, done weightlifting since middle school, run track and cross country, and raced motocross since 4th grade) Injuries from other sports is what turned me to golf in the first place. I have found that i usually shoot hight 80's and 90's though. I'll post swing vids ASAP. I hit a provisional off the tee if i doubt i can find my ball, then take 2 penalty strokes if i use the provisional.

Please post video of your strokes on 5 consecutive holes, taken by a fellow golfer. That would tell us a lot.

I absolutely don't believe it. Even if you had all the time in the world to practice there are too many elements of golf to learn in that amount of time. You could have spent two months just learning to chip the ball and you wouldn't have that skill up nearly enough to impress folks.

This is a forum of golfers. I would think the majority of us realize how difficult the game is. It's not bowling. Compensations and band-aids don't allow you to make it through 18 holes with a decent score.

You are either lying, or you shave some strokes here and there in one way or another. That sort of learning curve would produce the best golfer in the world in a few years. Even tiger worked for years before he broke 80. Yes he was young but he was clearly a prodigy. You aren't.

Oh... Now it's starting to come out. Changed from 72 to 74. The course rating is 64. We're getting closer. I plugged that into a rough calculator and it spit me out a 16.5.

winner winner! I agree. There's a par 3 course I could probably shoot 72 on :P

Typical 16 year old exaggeration :P Oh well, the enthusiasm for golf is there and thats what counts!

No disrespect but I would doubt it if I haven't seen it. Have you had good instruction in this time?

Its possible I'm sure but I have never heard of someone getting that good that fast. A 10 handicap is a really good golfer. But maybe you have been working an insane amount, have a natural swing, etc.

I just wouldn't believe it unless I had some kind of evidence. But, keep chugging if you have!

Bowling isn't easy. Yeah, its easier to do well in bowling quickly (I dropped a 279 2 years into bowling) but it's still a hard game to be consistent at.

Bowling is a joke compared to golf.

Can't wait to see the swing videos!

I don't care if it was a 64 rating, 74 is still damn good for 2 months.

Bowling is a joke compared to golf.

Bowling has definitely benefited from technology as much or more than golf. But being a consistent 215-220 bowler isn't easy no matter what. Truth is, bowling sucks compared to golf. Golf is so much more fun imo.

In bowling, anyone can shoot a pro score from time to time. I've shot a 750 and trust me, I'm not a good bowler (180 avg). I've never sniffed par for 18. So yeah, I'd mainly agree.

i'm not sure how much i believe you, but i'm not going to accuse you of straight up lying or anything like that. as someone else commented, not playing by the rules can produce much much lower scores. For instance if you dont actually finish every single putt (you'd be surprise how often you can miss 1 foot putts) or give yourself a few shots off the tee and just play the best ball or don't properly drop your ball, etc... I play a lot of "practice" rounds where i'll hit several balls from the tee or fairway or rough or wherever but these rounds are never scored. If i played a better ball format with my 10, 15, or however many tee shots i can safely say i'd be shooting 60's every single time.

I agree, good for him. But it's not the phenomenal claim he seemed to be making initially. I think we were all under the impression that he was claiming to shoot E on a championship length course.

JSwiney... Go play Stonecrest Golf Course for $26 and tell us how you do. Try to play from the black tees (129/73.3), or at least the blue tees (124/70.8). Tim

750 would be his score for 3 games unless it was a typo.

I don't have a problem with the 10 handicap thing at all. If he's only entered a few scores, then his handicap will undoubtedly be scewed. And it's a 64.4 rating. That means his differential is 12. That translates into an 84 on a course with a rating of 72 (I'm ignoring slope). That's not nearly as impressive as the 74 that he said he shot. Play on a course with a rating of like 72 and slope of like 130. See what the score is.

Its not that uncommon. Ive heard of a pga pro here in jersey that was shooting to scratch by the end of his first year. He picked up the game as an adult as well. Some people just have a natural feel and talent for the game.

Congrats on playing so well so early in your golfing career. It's hard to determine how well you are actually playing with the low course ratings you posted, it sounds like a pitch-n-putt, or kids course, but good start anyways!

The best start I ever witnessed from a real true beginner was a buddy of mine back in Ft. Ord California. They were in the process of closing the base so our last month there we had a lot of down time. My buddy comes to me and says he's never played but he was serious about playing and he would work hard if I would help him. We spent 2-3 hours every day on the range then went out and played. At the end of the second week he broke 100 counting every stroke and playing by the rules, shooting a 98 on a tough Championship Tour Caliber golf course. I thought it was quite impressive, and he worked hard to earn it. That's the best I've ever seen or heard of a beginner playing right out the box.

P.S. Just my own rule, but your not allowed to brag about your handicap until you've done it under the gun....ie Club Championship or County Amatuer at a minimum,,,lol!

Good Luck and keep working hard and testing yourself with some tougher courses!

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

yes CONGRATS bro!
obviously being an athlete, you picked this up quick

yes, granted not the hardest course on the plant, but you have to start somewhere right?
keep at it, if you really do like the game (which i assume you do) continue to practice
playing in a tourney will test the most important part of this game...the 6" between your ears
if you can learn to control that, you may have a new career ahead of you

i dont think we should give this guy such a hard time
he WAS asking a legitimate question, can his HCP really be this low?
well we all know the answer is NO....you need to post a few more rounds, and then it will show it's true colors

its not that far fetched of story....if you have it, you have it

my home course has a rating of 71.2 and a slope of 124 from the tips and plays 6750yds
so a decent course...not a championship course, but decent
i started when i was 12 yrs old, won the junior club chamionship 3 years in a row (even my 1st year playing - w a 7 piece set)
was a 10 hcp after my first year (keep in mind in Saskatchewan, we can only golf 4-5 months MAX)
proceeded to win the 18 + under club chamionship 2 more years and was a +2 hcp

i was on the H/S golf team and literally golfed & practiced everyday
it was my life
i have a hockey background, so i pick other sports up quickly and usually am quite good at most things

this kid might have the skills and ability to actually go somewhere...who knows?
