So I was at the range working on my slice in my driving, and I figured out the problem. I am too over the top with the driver, and need to stay long and flat with the backswing. Are there any drills or swing thoughts or anything like that you guys have that you think could help me have a nice, long, shallow swing path?

turn back and turn through. If you are slicing you are probably forgetting to complete your swing and turn through. On your finish your hands should be high above your left shoulder and your sternum should be pointing at the target. You might also pay attention to the basics...grip, ball position, posture, etc.

I had the same problem and found the root of the problem was my posture. Bend less at the knees, more at the hips, and keep your wrists hanging down naturally, not way out in front of you.

Also, make sure you grip isn't all palm. I found that can also help promote a slice.

Something that might help too... my irons go dead straight. I only have the slicing problem with the driver. Maybe because I take the backswing all the way up like I do with the irons?

Swing "up the hill."

Stand on the bottom of a hill (like the side of a tee box) and swing up the hill. If you come over the top, you'll hit the hill. It promotes a swing path where you come from the inside, with that back elbow tucked in close to the body. I like to do this on the tee box when I'm waiting to tee off.

See the link below for a detailed description of the drill:

I haven't tried this, but I have a similar problem to the topic creator. Does this drill actually work? My initial reaction makes me think it would promote pushing the ball to the right.

It will only push the ball to the right if your club face is open. Also, I wouldn't expect the end result to be as drastic as that red arrow is in the illustrations. It is just to get your mind set that way to induce a more proper swing path.

I tried the swing up the hill drill. I think I have the inside out feel back. But that revealed another problem... I either rotate back too far or forward not enough. The ball's trajectory follows were my torso is pointed exactly; however, this is way right of my target.

I posted it in another thread as well, but a pro told me that one thing you might try is to set up square to the ball, then open your hands a bit. This will temporarily open the club face. It really helps when you try and over compensate to get rid of your slice and you start hooking. on your downswing your hands seem to come back to square, naturally. Don't know if that will help you, good luck.

Take an extra glove and stick it under your right armpit.

Try hitting balls without the glove falling out until the follow through.

Keep your shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and fingers really relaxed.

Allow your arms to extend down the target line on the release and into a full follow through.

Just a drill.

Good luck.

    • Would he not be entitled to unplayable relief and a one stroke penalty? And wouldn't the drop for unplayable plausibly be the same as the one he took?  That he cited the wrong rule and no penalty makes this a two stroke penalty instead of one? I'm assuming I'm wrong and there is a rule that prevents the player from reinterpreting his actions afterwards?  Regarding rule 14.7 - wrong place - and the general penalty. In this case, he gained a significant advantage by having an unimpeded swing? Shouldn't the penalty be for a "serious breach"? DQ?
    • Man, some really good shots and some horrible. Horrible becomes really bad in 20 sustained and 40 gust. I have issues with punch shots because I tend to leave the club face open and the wind just pushes a 5-10 yard fade into a 20-30 yard slice.  I got the shanks on the driving range before. So, I spent like 15 trying to stop that. I had it show up once at one hole. 😮‍💨. I know what I need to do it’s just getting the body to do it. Just major over the top issues. Even on low punch shots, I smother them with a pull draw. It’s timing the turn with my arms down.  I just need to be more turn only in the backswing and arms down in the downswing. That fricken upper body turn just gets me man.
    • that turned out to be a 9.6 differential. My ball just gets demolished by the wind. I miss hit it just enough for it not to get pushed around.
