It's going to be great opening packages in the next few days. I have a bunch of new gear on the way to replace my crappy third hand castouts. I have a set of Mizuno MX950 irons and hybrids on the way, and a three club set of Cleveland CG14 wedges in 52, 56, and 60. I can't wait! I'm stoked and ready to spend some range time to get aquainted with some new toys. My no-name driver and cheap TopFlite 3&5 woods are nervous, but I keep trying to convince them that they are safe, and will not be replaced(yet). My putter is spoiled and already knows it has a place in my bag forever.

Now I just need to figure out a way to be home everyday before my wife until all this gear arrives, or I'll owe her some horse stuff.

In my Costco stand bag:

Tech A4 9015D 10.5 w/stock stiff Matrix Ozik
F60 16.5 4 wood w/stock stiff Exsar
Pro Gold 18* and 23* hybrids w/ Matrix Ozik reg J36 PC 5-PW Project-X Rifle flighted 5.0 CG14 52*, 56*, and 60* standard bounce Island Series Antigua AD333

Very nice. I just purchased a new driver and a new set of irons to replace my 15yr old set of clubs. I'm still looking for fairway woods and a couple of hybrids to round out the bag. The only clubs I have that are safe are my lob wedge, and my putter... they've been very good to me lately.
Enjoy the shiny new toys!

Congrats on the new sticks.

I love those wedges.

Better fess up to the wife...and soon. I suspect horse stuff costs way more than any golfing gear, though.

Part of the joy of getting new golf stuff is the repeated tracking of the package and rushing to meet the delivery guy before the wife gets home...that's so wrong. I don't feel too guilty though. She does the same with her clothing orders.

Two things:

Oh yes. Horse stuff. When your wife complains about not having a hobby, DO NOT suggest to her anything to do with horses. Trust me here. If I could go back eight years, I would have said "knitting" or "golf" instead of "riding horses". She doesn't really care for my hobbies, which are fishing and golf, but she is "all in" on the horse stuff. Tack, lessons, boarding, hoof care, vet bills.....all that stuff. I bet the horse hobby is at least as expensive as 4-5 times a month bass fishing and twice a month golf on my local course.

Actually, I just kid about keeping new clubs from her. She's great in every way, and we are lucky enough to be able to enjoy our hobbies to just about whatever extent we want to without bothering each other about it. Horses make her happy, so I'm all for that. I'm happy to be on the lake or pulling my hair out on the course, and she's all for that, and keeping each other happy is what it's all about.

My wife's hobby is Facebook. On the one hand, that's free. On the other hand, golf is infinitely more expensive than freaking Facebook...so I almost feel like I'm sometimes not allowed to spend money on golf.

So you're saying if I can get my wife to start riding horses and stuff then I can get a new driver, 3-wood, stand bag, and wedge? Okay, I'm going to give it a shot.

Or......just go and get the stuff anyway. If she's fully engrossed in Facebook, she'll never notice. If she does happen to notice, and gives you the business, just tell her to calm down, and tell her that I said it was OK for you to get the gear.

Piece of cake, right?

    • My two cents? Don't. As a beginner that's interested in learning about the golf swing, you'll find yourself consuming a lot of information, most of which isn't even relevant to your own swing. You need to learn you can't think your way to a good golf swing. Focus on the one thing that you're working on and doing that on every swing, come what may. And remember, mishits happen.
    • Day 6 (7 May 24) - More work in the backyard focused on tempo in addition to setup.  Worked with 6 and 7 irons hitting hard foam balls - used the old MacGregor irons to mix it up a little.
    • No! lol. But they have to be in the right sequence to play mid-handicap golf or little better. Mostly. And even in that there is range/margin for error in the motions and positions that most normal humans can handle. It helps if you have a decent idea of how a golf club moves around the body like you would any other equipment sports (baseball and hockey might be the closest) After all, fairways are 40 yards wide. Don't overthink it. Be diligent in getting basics right. I will concede that it is harder than it sounds but it certainly is not exact angle/exact position/exact degree of bend/exact speed/exact facial expression, etc, every.... single.... time or the result is horrible death.
    • Looking to play in the Severna Park Golf league and it got rained out the first three weeks. I know the course is being renovated so it is not in great shape but the location is easy for me and I would love to meet some other golfers in my area. Anyone here in Maryland Annapolis area?
    • I like to look at the positives.  Overall you are fairly consistent down the center with most shots 20 yards or less off center.  On most fairways that should be in play.  Sure, you had some very short duds, but also if you look there is a good cluster in the 110-125 yard range.  Sure, we would all like to be longer, but knowing your typical shot is more important than trying to hit the 7-Iron 175 Yards.  Just take more club for longer shots and do not worry about it.  Your distances may increase as you improve over time so do not get caught up on that now.
