Is there any way to add full length dividers to my old school 4-way top divided Ping L8 stand bag?

I've had this bag forever (about 15 years) and much sentimental value is attached to it. It's faded red, white and blue with matching Ping tri-color head covers and I've never seen another like it. But I just hate how all of my clubs grips stick together at the bottom of the bag. If there was anyway to add 4 full length dividers that would be awesome. Would I be talking something that's custom fabbed?

I've never seen anything but I'm sure you yourself could fancy something up easily..

Ahh, I was afraid that was going to be my only option. I will have to see what I can do. Hard to part with it, though. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it other than the dividers.

My old cart bag has 14 tubes in it, granted it has a top with 14 holes that match up. I wonder if there is a way to insert some tubes in your bag to keep the grips separate?

I bought a new Ogio stand bag that has a 8 way divider, but I do miss the individual tubes in my old bag sometimes.

Ya, you can get tubes that go the length of the bag

ya they have black tubes you can put in your bag to separate it, but i think they look bad and tacky and they're not meant for the clubs so it's up to you

If you hunt around at flea markets or yard sales, I bet you could find an older bag with the solid plastic tubes. You could buy it cheap and just use the tubes in your bag. If you have graphite shafts, I'd glue some felt around the top few inches to protect the graphite. If it were me, I'd probably use the bag to store clubs I wasn't currently using and place it in the corner for memory sake and go buy a new bag that is setup the way I want it.

I've done this before. You need a good sized piece of firm, grey foam about 1 to 1 1/2" thick. Trim it to fit the top of your bag. You can find the full length club tubes at most department stores. I think Dick's has them as well. Then mimic your favorite hole layout of a few bags that you see using the bottom of the tubes to score their outline for a circular cut for each of your clubs. I have an older Wilson staff bag that only had three large dividers and I did this and used it for years.

I believe the platic tubes are not that great for your shafts, especially graphite. Your clubs will be rotating inside the tube, which results in scratches.

If I was in your shoes, with the sentimental bag, I'd keep the bag at home and just buy a new one with full length dividers.

Well, thanks for all of the input guys! I truly did not expect to get this much help on what I thought was simply a trivial topic. You are all a great bunch and I will let you know what I come up with. Have a great weekend and hit 'em straight!

Ten years ago I bought a PING Hoofer bag. It was a super carry bag...but outright sucked for cart use, mainly due to it's angled base designed for stand use.

It was smallish in size and clubs would get tangled easily.

I was in Walmart and saw the individual black plastic tubes for sale. I bought a ton of them and loaded my bag with them.

Let's just say that it didn't last long.....the tubes jammed in there was worse than before.

I think I wound up giving the bag away and getting another one.

Since I've gone to larger grips, club access has become an issue again. The 14 full length divider bags are the ticket.

    • I'll say again… you have a different definition of "temporary" and "speed" than I do. For your handicap to go up FOUR shots means you were through the soft cap and approaching the hard cap. If you did it over 15 rounds (leaving five potentially lower scores), then you played REALLY bad golf over that stretch because it's likely that only three or four of the best of those 15 rounds were actually counted, so if the three or four best scores RAISED your handicap five shots (three at 100%, 2 at 50% once you hit the soft cap), then that's some BAD golf over an extended (not temporary) period of time. And here's the thing… play 15 good rounds, or even just EIGHT, and it'll DROP again, even faster. Handicaps still drop faster than they rise, not only because of the way we calculate it (best 😎 but because of the caps. Right… it's not like you're not needing the shots. You're playing really badly, and your handicap is still lagging behind your play.
