David Duval's approach to 18 in the 1999 (?) Bob Hope Classic when he shot that 59. Here's the details from and old sports illustrated arcticle:

Duval's eagle on the par-5,543-yard 18th was golf theater at its best. After an enormous drive of more than 320 yards (Duval averaged 295.6 yards off the tee last week) to the heart of the fairway, he had 226 yards to the pin, set in the back of a long green guarded by water on the left side. Duval flushed a five-iron that carried about 210 yards, then ran hole-high, six feet from the pin

He went down 18 knowing he needed an eagle to make the 59 and he did it. That is probably one of the most exciting moments in golf I have ever seen - was sat watching it on my sofa a nervous sweating wreck and when he nailed the putt I hit the ceiling!

Under the circumstances, to get the eagle for a 59 and win the tournament, his execution was unbelieveable. I just hope DD manages to get back to the level where he should be. A rare talent.

I was playing with my boss and a friend/co-worker. My friend and I had been playing regularly for only a short time, and my boss being 60+ years old we were all playing at a 20+ handicap. We come up to a very short par 3 < 100 yards. My boss lands it within 8 feet. Next my buddy lands it inside my boss. Then I land it inside both of them. All of us had a good laugh about it because we didn't have a single GIR the rest of the course.

I was playing with my buddy at my local course, he is a 26 handicapper. We get to the 16th, a 460+ par 5 with a creek running across right in front of the green. he lays up as usual leaving around 100yd pitch onto the green, he completly mishits the ball sending it 30 yards right, heading straight for the creek, it hit the side of the wooden bridge & bounces all the way back to the green, settling about 3 foot from the pin, he made the putt for a birdie.

I was equally gobsmacked & p***ed off, I lost the round by one shot.

Played with young fellow who hitting long and left on a hole by 50 yards down in a dirt non-grass area hitting back to an elevated green running away from the player. he hit a wedge shot that was Tiger like perfect. it bounced a couple of times and stopped on a dime just below the hole and he converted his putt to save par, unbelieveable! we was playing a Callaway ball, if I remember correctly.

I played with a teenager that drove a par 4 green over high trees at Harding Park, hole #16 from the red tees, he plays baseball for his high school team. I was thinking if I could hit the ball like that I would be playing golf.

Recently I played with a 18 year old who hit the ball 290 - 300 yards straight with a slight draw he used a Callaway FT-9 driver, not very tall but stocky and obviously strong and good technique.

Playing in a doubles quarter final recently my playing partner was teeing off on a par 4. He hit the ball out off the heel it hit the ladies red tee marker then hit the fence and the ball bounced back in about 40 yards in front of the tee area. He then hit a rescue to about 100 yards short of the green, wedge to about 3 feet and sunk the putt for par and to win the hole! The ball had a green mark on one side from the fence and a red mark on the other side from the tee marker. We went onto win the comp.

Me and a friend were out playing our local 9 hole muni course. He hit his PW about 100 yards out. It hit the left side of the hole and shot about 20 yards off the right side of the green. There was a divot where is bal hit. We repaired it as best we could. I had about a 20' putt for birdie. My ball came to rest JUST outside the left side, almost coming to a complete stop befire catching what was left of his divot and dropping in!!!!!

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
