Here's a summary of my round today, if anyone cares:

1) A 300 yard bomb down the middle of the fairway, fat lob wedge to front of green, par.

2) Another 300 yard bomb down the middle, lob wedge to 5 feet, lip-out.

3) Flush 9-iron on a 155 yd par 3, hits 3 ft from the hole, backs up 10 ft, lip-out.

4) Snap-hooked a 4-wood trying to cut a dogleg, ball into creek, chunk 3rd shot from drop area, chip on, two putts for double.

5) Snap-hooked driver off OB fence, ball came back in bounds, tree trunk up my ass, scooted a 7-iron about a foot off the ground on the front fringe, 2-putt par.

6) Trying to correct snap-hook on par 5, hit driver about 130 yards long, and 100 yards in the air. Hit a flush 4-wood over a stand of pine trees to about 130 yards, wedge to 12 feet, lip-out, par.

7) Doing everything in my power not to shank my tee shot onto Interstate 64, flush-pull a 4-iron into the group in front of us, yell 'fore', almost kill one of the teaching pros at Northampton Driving Range. Hit a miracle lob wedge to 3 feet, par.

8) Being an idiot, trying to drive 8 green, hit a pull hook about 50 yards left of my target. I hit it so far left of target, it carried the pond on the left hand side of the hole, onto the 9th hole (par 3). Hit a gap wedge to 8 feet, curled it in for birdie.

9) 160-yd par 3, downwind, 9-iron to 2 ft, plunk, birdie, skin ($$$).

10) Short par 5 (490 yds), decided to hit 3W because I was hitting the driver so poorly, hooked the 3W into the trees. Tried a 'slapshot' 2-iron (anyone else would call it a stinger), got it too high, banked off a tree, into the fairway, about 120 yds in, pulled gap wedge to the left fringe. About 35 ft for birdie. Plunk. -1 on the day.

11) Par 4, tried to cut the dogleg with a 3W, came up short, had about 100 yds over a tree, opened the face on my gap wedge and played a 'long flop' shot, ball ends up 5 ft from the pin. I skank the birdie putt, tap-in par.

12) 135 yd par 3, flush pitching wedge, ball hits 2 ft from the pin, sucks back 15 ft off the green, have the birdie putt dead to rights, but leave it a foot short. Easy par.

13) Short par 4 (370 yds), hit a flush 2-iron to about 125, pull the sh*t out of my gap wedge, run birdie putt 7 ft past, roll the par back in.

14) Par 3, about 135 to pin, FAT pitching wedge, about 40 yds short. Hit lob wedge to 20 ft, dead center, par.

15) Short par 5 (~450 yds), but it shortens to about 410 if you can clear the crap on the right (dogleg right). Hit another mammoth hook into the 6th fairway, about 50 yds left of target, 4-wood goes flying. Had about 220 to the pin, calculated by doing a trig equation in my head to extend the radius of the 200 yard marker on the hole. Push a 2-iron onto the 16th tee, yell 'fore', almost kill another guy in the group ahead of us. Hit a lob wedge fat, then run a chip 6 ft past, and miss the putt coming back, bogey.

16) 160 yd par 3. Shankapotmous comes out, hit a hosel rocket about 40 yds short/right. Hit another miracle lob wedge to 4 ft, par.

17) 340 yd par 4, another sky-ball off the tee into deep cabbage, hack a gap wedge to the back of the green, leave birdie putt 5 ft short, roll par putt in.

18) 400 yd par 4, OB tight left, pond right, too afraid to hit driver, hit a fat 2-iron about 180 yards. Have about 220 in, but worried about snapping the 2 OB, so go with a hard 4, leave the hard 4 short of the bunker, about 30 yards to the pin, another lob wedge to 3 ft, par.

Even par 69, and played like total dog shit, save three holes. I just don't get this game.

you bragging or complaining?
haha, atleast you score well when you play like shit

The term is "damning someone with faint praise"
You have changed it to "praising yourself with faint damning"

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Ha! Well said.

OP, what is there not to get? You played out of your ass in the short game to save a mediocre game form the tees and make a good score. That's golf. Had you hit more fairways you still may not have averaged closer approach shots. Sounds like you could have made a few more putts, especially early, but at my stage of the game I'll take a tap in par every time.

    • Yeah I really want to avoid the rabbit hole if I can  🤣 I'm not sure I'm going to make my lesson Tuesday though, whatever I did to the back of my hand at the range is getting worse, but that's a whole separate issue 🤣
    • Rory becomes the second person after Tiger to pass $100 million in earnings on the PGA Tour. Earnings always favor recency since purses go up. Scottie's first win was in 2022, but he's already at $75 million with "only" 18 professional wins. Rory McIlroy $100 million career earnings PGA Tour, joins Tiger Woods Until Sunday, Tiger Woods was the only golfer in the history of the PGA Tour to surpass $100 million in career earnings. Now he has company.
    • Can't tell 100% from your videos but if your right hand is too far underneath the grip the tendency for most folks is to roll it close through impact little too early. Try putting your right (trail) hand more on the side of the grip instead of underneath at address for a simple enough adjustment. This might help. In general match-ups matter greatly and you might have to make corresponding changes. I wouldn't even begin to suggest whatever those might be. Best to get a good pro to help. Self-diagnosis/experimentation can work for some but for most it's a rabbit hole.
    • Been away for a few weeks. A bit of tumultuous times at work. We had about 4% our exempt workforce laid off. My project from hell won’t let up. Just been burnt out the past couple of weeks and the cold crappy weather. Back at it now. Backswing drill - working on swing path feels. Right wrist bent, more feeling the palm facing away from me. Feeling the hands stay in front of me more.  Downswing- Feel like I make a big long arc with the butt end of the club to my right pocket. More out away from my shoulder. Combining this with recentering for timing. When I make a 60% swing, the clubhead feels like it’s arching from the inside and lower way more.
    • Its tough, "greatest" is subjective, measured in many different ways, while goals and assists are simple numbers.  And even simple numbers aren't always directly comparable across eras, as you mention.  A truly amazing coincidence, if Ovi scores 2 goals in the next 2 games, he'll have exactly the same number as Gretzky (894), in exactly the same number of games (1487).
