Do it a bunch and you don't as excited. Experience is basically it.

Until you can prove to be consistent, don't expect to be consistent.

Nothing much excites me really. I can see how birdie par birdie would be exciting but I'm a 12 handicap player which means for 2/3 of the holes I play bogey golf. With that kind of start I'd be expecting a lower than usual score, but I'm also aware that things can go wrong in a heartbeat.

So logic dictates that I keep my concentration. Also once you've hit a low round as I have (must lower than my handicap) then you wont be on edge the next time things start to go nicely.

Act like you've done it before. Do you see Tiger jumping up and down, running around high-fiving every birdie? Nope. Pick it up, smile and act like it's not the first freakin' birdie you've ever had or the first long putt you've ever made. Move on.

kinda the other way for me, have to keep myself calm after bad shots, good shots like birdies come about once a month so getting a little excited I think is ok if you're not that good, sometimes I can carry that onto the next hole. Its always good to feel confident, Im usually happy to get bogeys.

i love getting pumped up after a great shot... thats what keeps me coming back for more...
i mean im not running around like a drunk lunatic screaming touchdown or anything...
the only time i wanna stay calm is when im on the dance floor putting for something that counts... but if im off the green getting excited might help me gain a few extra yards... lol

I was playing with a scratch golfer recently and I asked him a similar question. His response: "If there are 3 holes left and you are having a great round. Don't tell yourself "don't screw it up." Tell yourself "hey, there's three more holes to birdie" Not sure if that helps, but its worked for me

After a blow-up, I tend calm myself down after the next angry tee-shot: if it happens to be on the fairway I often realize this could had turned into a disaster also.

In other words, I need to work on that.

I prefer a ball, but may occasionally hit almost anything.

Don't think about the last shot and don't think about the next shot. The current shot is all that matters. If I am playing by myself I someties wear headphones with some soft jazz stuff playing... really relaxes me.

Saw this watching Golf Network.

If you hit a bad shot, take a few steps back, a few deep breaths. Go back to where the ball was, go through your pre-shot-routine, and hit like you normally would - without a ball. Picture the ball flight, and voila: this should be enough to convince your brains that you hit a nice shot and you should be good to go.

Please don't do this on a busy day at the local muni, when you're already holding us up.

A quote from Kris
...is that college bball really isn't "lower tier". The better teams have their rosters filled with guys who could play in the NBA. hell, guys used to come straight from high school to the NBA. I really don't think there's much of a difference skill-wise between the two.

Unless you're playing alone, I don't see how this significantly slows you down.

A busy day at the local municipal usually means there is a 4 ball in front, 4 in front of them etc. Why is it when the course is evidently packed that people think it is the group immediately in front that is the problem?
