Trying to find a 7 wood or any club to go between my 3 iron 4 wood. Would a 7 wood fit between these clubs?

4 wood is about 200-220ish. 3 iron is 180 to 190ish.

I think Callaway is one of the few company that has made a 4 and 7 wood consistently.

I have a Callaway 7 wood and I can do just about anything with that club, except for low punches.

I have a Ping G5 7 wood. I recommend though that you look into the Wilson Staff FYbrid. It's inexpensive right now. It's made to be a gap between your hybrids and woods. It would replace a 7 wood and a 2 iron. It's a dream to hit.

Many manf and many players equate the 7 wood as a 3 iron equivalent / replacement.

Maybe a 5 Wood or 1 or 2 hybrid would be a good stick to fill the void.

Yup, I use the 7 wood as a 3 iron replacement. Ideally, because of the larger head it should carry farther, which it does. But, the ball also flies a lot higher, so there is less roll. The benefit for me is that when I want to stick a green from ~230 out, I can really go at it and not worry about the ball rolling off. I've even spun Pro V1's back a good length after hitting the green.

7 wood is also just as good as a hybrid out of the rough, assuming you are not under a bunch of tree's. I'm practicing hitting it thin, so I can work on those low fliers. Another downside is if you have a good breeze or headwind, the ball will be more affected by due to the increased flight.

I suggest that if you want to keep your 3 iron, then go with either a 5 wood or 17/18* hybrid , depening on which you hit bettter.

Here are some of the 7-woods available...

Callaway: the Hyper-X (a few are left), FT-i Squareaway, FT, and Bb Diablo. Also offers 9-woods in FT and Diablo.

Ping: 7-woods in G10, G15, Rapture v2 and Rhapsody models. Also has 9-woods in G10 and Rhapsody.

Nickent: 4DX fairway woods.

i have a Mizuno F-50 7-wood. it's one of the best feeling woods i have hit. very nice feeling and sound at impact. but i hit it only around 5 yards longer than my 3-iron or 4-hybrid. i prefer the hybrid over the 7-wood and 3-iron for more consistency.

Thanks for all the feedback. I've been a real hybrid hater so maybe its about time I start testing them out.

I play a Titeliest F4 7 wood, it pretty much replaced my 3 iron maybe just a hair longer. I could rarely hit my 3 iron full distance consistantly so 7 wood works much better for me, especially useful out of rough. Took me a few weeks to find a used one but they are out there as I have seen several for sale since buying mine.

Id go with a 3 hybrid, I can hit mine about 200-210 yards on average and its easier to hit from the turf esp the rough, i use it exclusively for 2nd shots on par 5's. I only use my 3 wood off the tee.
