What are your current 4i specs? Loft, length? Try to match them up to the hybrid.

You'll hit the same loft hybrid farther than an iron. Shaft is a little longer. Say your 4i is 23* you would want to look at a 25 or 26* hybrid. Thats how it worked out for me anyway.

Exactly!!!!!!

They make things so much easier. I used to dread fairway shots from 180-200yds..... I don't mind them a bit anymore. I knowI hit more greens with my 3&4hybrids than I ever did with the same irons.

The above posters are spot on. You will need around a 26* hybrid most likely since it will fly a little further then the 4 iron you use now.

Just put my Goldwin irons in the basement, and my 'new' used Cleveland HiBore hyrids in my bag (3-PW). First time using, shot my best game ever (80) and added, at least, 10 yards to each of the clubs. Fairway woods are going into the basement with the irons. I'm 65; 18-19 handicap; pretty full swing at about 81-86 mph.

I picked up the Nickent 3DX DC 19* used at a PGA Tour Superstore for only $19.99. The 2nd round I played with it I nailed a shot from 200 out 5 feet away from the cup. Needless to say, I am now impressed with hybrids, and will be getting some more in a couple of months.

A 4 iron's normal loft is 24 degrees so I would go for the Titleist 909H. It's a very good club but also the TaylorMade 09 Rescue and the Mizuno MX-700. You can check the reviews of these three clubs on the Sand Trap website. IMO the 909 H is the best out of the three.

    • Day 91 (1  Aug 25) - Pre-tournament practice round today…had some great up and downs for par saves.  Rain came in this evening so it will be a totally different playing course tomorrow.
    • Jesus, when he keeps saying scissoring moment, ugh that is a horrible sounding phrase. Just makes me cringe. It doesn't help my mind went to Mr. Garrison from South Park. 🤣 If you know you know.  I think for the most part, golf shaft companies have gotten this figured out. They ask questions like, what tempo do you swing at. The whole scissor terminology sounds like they want to stand out a bit.  Yea, golfers load the golf shaft differently, and different bend profiles can help out. I do think swing speed matters as well. You probably want a golf shaft with lower torque if you swing faster.
    • Played 9 holes, shot a 39.  Kind of got around. Everything between the trees, so in play. Short game was rusty. Got to get back on that. Greens were stupidly slow because they got a lot of rain yesterday and probably couldn't cut them down. Usually in the summer they are firm and pretty fast for how sloped they are. Got to work on face to path a bit.
    • We agree here. Top of the car has a forward force, bottom of the car experiences a backward force via the braking. Both about the COM (somewhere in between). Result is a rotational flip. Since the forward force is still higher the car probably still globally travels forward. Sure, pretty basic. You really think there are deliberate twist forces applied? Like forcing the club head forward and simultaneously forcing grip end in the opposite direction? Heck I don't think we even slow down the grip end deliberately let alone force it the other way. Sorry, if I am missing something here. The orientation change is simple incidental because there is different rate of global movement of grip vs. clubhead throughout the swing. I also happen to think the best swings have the least amount of differential movement between the two end in the impact zone.  In my defense, I never thought one could do justice in covering all aspects of a golf swing in a paragraphs or two to begin with. Especially not with grade school physics..😜 Okay.
    • Wow, @DeadMan that is such a helpful breakdown of what’s around. Really excited to check a bunch of these out. Thank you. Will definitely go to Walnut Creek. Will also try and get a commonground tee time. Haven’t played many Doak courses yet! If your schedule frees up, let me know!
