I noticed this course (2 actually) while hunting for various munis in the area, all the reviews online are good. I just wanted to check if any forum folks have first hand accts. Looks pretty challenging (course 2), but not too terribly challenging that I should stay away. Thanks in advance!

I am thinking about trying to get there at 630-7AM so I can zip through on foot! Hopefully that is possible at this course and there arent lines of folks waiting to do the same at dawn.

Both courses are fun. I prefer course #1. The courses are built within a community, so tee times can be a challenge. Because they have a built in customer base and are always busy, the staff there aren't exactly the friendliest and most accomodating.

Other courses near by that are good. Firewheel (three courses) and Woodbridge (great course). Pecan Hollow in Plano is fine.

You'll like both of the Sherrill Park courses. Now that zipping around...that's a different story, good luck with that. I prefer Firewheel actually, especially the Lakes course...it's only 5-10 minutes East of Sherrill Park and about the same price give or take $5

Thanks for the replies so far folks...hope the staff isn't too unfriendly, ha hah, if so I'd rather give my money to someone else, so we'll see. I decided to get a pal to join me and we blocked out a tee time for next week. So I won't get to walk (my fav way to play), but I guess it'll be nice to be able to chuck a few beers in the cart. I'll let you guys know how it is.

For early AM 'zipping' around, i guess ill stick with LB Houston on Mondays. Since they just aearated greens, there is REALLY no one there. Haha.

Thx again!

I've played Sherrill before. Course #1 is actually supposed to be the more challenging course of the two, but they are both pretty good.

I'd also recommend giving Chase Oaks a try. It's basically at Legacy and 75 in Plano (though the flagsticks actually say Allen). They have an 18-hole (Blackjack) and a 9-hole (Sawtooth) to choose from.

Blackjack is a pretty tough, but quality course. It's always been in very good condition and the greens seem to be in better shape than the times I've played Sherril. It's a bit more expensive than Sherril, but I've never once had any difficulty getting a tee time there and it isn't as crowded as Sherril. IMO, Blackjack is better than course 1 or 2 at Sherril.

I decided to make that my go to course out of those two after a friend of mine and I played Sherril one weekend and it was so busy and people ahead of us were playing so slow that it took us 5 hours and 15 minutes to play 18 - it was ridiculous, and the Marshalls weren't doing anything to help the situation. We played Chase Oaks the next weekend and decided that the extra $10 was worth the nicer course and fewer people.

I've heard Chase Oaks is pretty good too. Thanks for the suggestion, maybe I'll try that one next. You'd think i wouldve been able to play every public course in DFW by now...but it looks like we're just blessed over here to have more golf than to know what to do with!

Thought I'd give the update, just got back from playing course two@Sherrill. It was pretty fun. I shot an okay score. Just like y'all warned, it did take me and my playing buddy 5 hours to finish...lots of slow play in front of us. I accidentally airmailed on an uphill dogleg left (very left) par 5. I hit over some trees to cut it off...and didn't think I had so much juice on the ball. I felt pretty bad about that as they were a sweet older couple.

I apologized, but they just laughed and said they were both safe. So anyways, thanks for the tips and info guys. I think I'd like to try course 1 next time. Maybe I'll bring a cigar or something so as to anticipate the waiting and so forth. Oh yeah on another note, if anyone in Dallas needs a playing bud, hit me up. I usually have nothin' to do but golf these days.
