I'd love to get the hat thingy... to be honest I have a bunch of cheapo markers but I never seem to have them with me when I need them, so I usually end up using a penny. ;)

I've got a few from St. Andrews, I've got one that my friend bought me from Carnoustie, and another friend bought me one from Pebble Beach.
What do I use?
It's really a case of which one I pick up off the desk, it's just pure guess, usually I just don't look, grab one and go to the course. :P

Recently I started using a magnetic marker - one from Dalit Bay resort/golf course in Malaysia. Next I will be getting a USA flag magnetic marker when I visit the NW US next time, as I am an Expat and live in Shanghai China.. I want to show some color over here!

Many moons ago, my family took a trip to Disney in Florida (I can't ever remember if it's World or Land) and I picked up a Mickey Mouse ball marker. It's always on the handle of my putter so I never have to worry about leaving it at home. I'm sure the hole on the top of the handle isn't for that purpose but the little "spike" on the back of the marker fits perfectly into the hole so that's where it stays. After years of use the hole as worn a little so I might have to move the marker to another safe keeping spot so I don't lose it. I also have some plastic ball markers from many different places. I've got a couple from a Kentucky Wildcats set my dad and step mom bought me for my first birthday after they moved to Kentucky. Too bad I'm a Vols fan (along with OSU). I've also got some with my cousin's companies logo, and then I've just got some plain ones that came with a golf coozie type thing that I got. The "coozie" looks like a golf bag. I use it as a pencil holder.

Send em to me... a vol fan having UK stuff is just plain wrong and dirty.

My Uncle (a lifelong Volunteer from and still lives in TN) seen the towel that came with the set and said "Atleast it's the right Conference if nothing else."

Forgive me I'm very new to golf, but I'm very surprised that so many of you are using such large (siverdollar, casino chip etc) size ball markers. I actually wondered about this very issue when I got my Odyssey putter, it came with a casino chip as a ball marker.

I was under the impression that the purpose of the ball marker was to be as small as possible and flat to avoid the other player's balls possibly hitting yours while they are putting. Do these huge ball markers ever get in the way, or do you just put out if your ball is in someone's line?

You should always ask the other players if your mark is in their way regardless if you use the smallest mark possible. I prefer others to use at least a quarter sized object as I can see them when I am walking around the green. I am too involved in my game to worry where everyone hit there shots. You can move your mark, using the putter head as a guide, out of the way of the person who is outside your ball. You will move the mark back once they have putted with the same method of using the putter head as a guide.

I use a 2006 PGA mark

    • Same here. Seems quite a few of my fundamentals had strayed and Erik had to get me back on track. It was kind of surprising how bad I had gotten off.
    • I would like to point out I was not complaining about hot summers;  rather, I enjoy them.  It's the coming cold cold winter I'm about to face that worries me.
    • From late 2022 until a few months ago, I barely played (maybe two dozen rounds, total, and only four rounds in 2024).  I had my first lesson in ages (Skillest, with Erik) and grip was part of it -- mine really did get into a bad spot, and I had to (and still have to) practice the new one.  It still feels odd, but that's a good thing when adjusting (otherwise I'm probably doing the previous).   I'm going back into the office for the first time since then and I'm tempted to take a small section of pipe, keep it in a desk drawer, and periodically take it out to practice my grip.
    • Great episode on GAPs. I agree 100%, this needs to be consistent. It is something you have complete control over to a high level of repeatability and precision. It is such low hanging fruit as well.  My own tendencies.  Grip - Can get too strong. I tend to not get much grip with my left pinky, and the grip can feel like it slips more into the palm. I mess around with grip size and tap wraps. I wonder if I need to get away from a big taper.  Stance - Use to be too far right. I noticed, for the first time ever, I was aiming too far left on the course last week. It was like 5-10 yards left of the target, not 20-30 yards right. Overcorrection. 🤣 It is getting better.  Posture - Way better now that I stretch and work on mobility. I could tell years ago that if I tried to keep my knees less bent, get more on the balls of my feet, I felt a stretch in my calves and hamstrings. Now, I don't, and it helps. I think people might avoid that stretch feeling because it might feel unnatural. I used to be head up as well, looking too much down the bridge of my nose. I still can catch myself doing that, especially on shorter irons. I think I have average ankle mobility. I do have to use elevated heels when I squat at the gym, or I tend to fall over forward.  I agree, if you are not practicing this then you can become lax. For about the entire first half of this season, I was just waltzing up to the ball without aiming. I still catch myself being lazing. I have to step back and actually aim. I think adding this into your practice sessions is easy. Just do it before ever rep at the range. Just make it a conscious effort on the course.  For the tee shot, the only time you can kind of use an alignment aid (other divot or maybe something is lying on the ground). I tend to use that to help me aim. I try to imagine a straight line that I align my body to.
