Just wanted to start a pointless thread to celebrate getting tickets to the Saturday and Sunday rounds of the 2010 US Open!! Anyone else going?

In the bag:
FT-iQ 10° driver, FT 21° neutral 3H
T-Zoid Forged 15° 3W, MX-23 4-PW
Harmonized 52° GW, Tom Watson 56° SW, X-Forged Vintage 60° LW
White Hot XG #1 Putter, 33"

Nope, I'll be at Whistling Straights for the PGA though.

Next years major lineup is pretty epic. Augusta, Pebble Beach, St. Andrews and Whistling Straights.

Tiger wins all 4, or at least 3 of the 4.

No, but I did get the hat. I went to the one at Torrey, and I don't know what my schedule is going to be like in June anyway. I will likely be finalizing my advancement to candidacy.

I've got my ticket confirmation and can't wait. My wife doesn't play golf so I posed the question to her if we should get rid of a couple days worth of tickets and only go two days, and her reply was "No way - we have to go all four days, and maybe a practice round too!". She enjoyed Torrey so much last year I think she's turning into more of a fan than I am!

Anyone started on checking hotels yet?

My major championship experience will have to wait until the 2011 PGA at Atlanta Athletic Club. Then there's the next year's PGA at Kiawah and the 2014 Open at Pinehurst, although I fully intend to qualify for that one.

Lucky guy! My wife isn't particularly interested in going, so I guess she'll be staying home with the kids while a couple friends and I go. I haven't yet found out how I'm going to be repaying this one..... *gulp*

Not yet, but planning to soon...

Wow, those are 4 awesome courses! I will go out on a limb with Tiger though, and say he wins ZERO next year!

It was just there in 2000. I am sure there are more than nine courses perfectly suitable for hosting the US Open.

I dunno, I really can't think of many courses that have the same mix of beauty, quality, history, and aura. It's cool to move it around but I think it'd be crazy to go more than a decade without hitting PB. For me, the draw is the course..

True; it is a nice course. I'm hoping to be able to get tickets for the 2013 US Open when it's at Merion GC.

For those that are planning on going and haven't made hotel reservations yet, better jump quick. I spent an hour on the phone and web today and pretty much everything in Carmel and Monterey is sold out, even in Salinas. I suspect that groups may have blanket-booked hotels and there may be rooms popping up in the coming months as they release some, but I decided to grab a booking now and then check back every once in awhile to see if other places open up.

Resurrecting this thread... Just received my tickets in the mail yesterday. A friend or friends (one hasn't made up his mind yet) is going to come to town and then we'll drive up for Saturday and Sunday. We decided to rough it with a campground in a nearby area. Should be interesting, with or without Tiger.

Yep, I'll be there all week, my buddy has a vacation house on N. San Antonio Ave which is right next to the course with a putting green for a front lawn LOL , best part is he won't be there, so it'll just be the wife and I , and she loves golf so needless to say I'm one lucky mofo to have found her

Local qualifying is underway at numerous venues around the country; results can be found here as they are reported to the USGA.

A notable qualifier thus far is Camilo Villegas' brother Manny, a Nationwide Tour player, who was the medalist at Admiral's Cove in Jupiter, Florida (not coincidentally, the Villegas family's home course). For some reason, they're still listing Sam Saunders, Arnold Palmer's grandson, as an amateur, but he'll be advancing to sectional qualifying as well.

Correction here: Sam Saunders isn't an amateur; he's the alternate from his local qualifier, so he hasn't advanced (yet).

I am kicking my self right now, but I am still not sure if I made the right move. I passed on Fridays round for the Open to go up to Coeur d'Alene to see my dad for fathers day and play in a tourney at the Coeur D'Alene Resort course. Its not like I haven't played there before, but it is one of my favorite places on earth!

    • You can pre-order an R50 here for pretty rapid shipping (these are back-ordered almost everywhere): https://www.playbetter.com/products/garmin-approach-r50-golf-launch-monitor-simulator?ghref=2301%3A700794. This is an affiliate purchase, and I'm willing to kick back lifetime ad-free Supporter membership here on TST or a 90-minute GEARS session for the cost of a regular member lesson (about 1/3 the cost). Also, I'll record a video myself soon when I get an R50.
    • Day 58 - 2024-11-27 Some quick 90-yard shots on a particular hole… before a lesson and testing out multiple Foresight Launch Monitors on GSPro.
    • Day 209 (27 Nov 24) - Easy session with the LW - short pitches replicating greens side up and downs. Finished up with the 7i and hard foam balls - making 1/2 to 3/4 swings with deliberately slowed tempo…from varied lies.
    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
    • Is that the current generation Gamer? Another old standby for a firm and inexpensive ball is Pinnacle.  There are two models, the Rush and the Soft, but I don’t know what compression they are.
