k hurrs the deal. i been using a pawn shop dunlop driver and three wood, promotional free gift wedges, and ping zing irons for the last few years. I love the zings and may not want to change from those, but i think i might need somethin i could work the ball a little easier with and give me better feel. however, i think its time to get rid of the dunlops. My question to all of you is, what is the best budget club brand out there. I'm talking anti callaway, ping, TM, bladda yadda where 75 % of your money goes to ads and tour pros. I've always considered my clubs as sleeper clubs, cuz when somebody wants to play for cash, and they see my clubs they think its a lock, and then i proceed to obliterate them. but if i ever wanna get on the nationwide circuit i have to upgrade at least a little. for now, i dont feel like droppin 2k on a new setup. so give me some ideas, like lynx or macgregor or kgz and that kind of thing. somethin hopefully youve played so you can give first hand feedback and whatnot. so thats my question and i need your help. whats my new sleeper club brand. thx

the big auction site?? no no no no no

There are plenty of reputable sellers on the big auction site, and you can get some really good deals.

You just have to use some common sense and be careful, but to completely ignore would be passing up some good deals.

In my X-Series Bag:

Driver G10 10.5*
Woods V-Steel 3W, 5W
Hybrids Pinemeadow ZR1 19* 3HIrons MX-19 4-GWWedge MP-R Black Nickel 54/10Putter Rossa Sebring AGSI+

We are - people were just using "big auction site" so I did too.

But I wouldn't say disregard EBAY completely because you can get some good deals as long as you're careful and sensible on who you buy from, but that is certainly your call.

Check out 3balls on ebay. It's a club sales outfit. Great folks to deal with and their club ratings are right on. Check out the used clubs here also. There was a Ping G5 driver that looked like new for about $100.

Get a hammer driver. No one would take you serious if you were gaming that thing!! LOL

i think that nickent driver is draw biased tho. i never draw, and i couldnt find a neutral nickent driver, but they did seem like the way to go for a while

Another vote for Nickent here as a great brand. I'm pretty sure I've seen Nickent tour spec drivers that come with a slightly open face so you might just need to search a bit more for one.

The head pro at my course mentioned that Callaway were planning to release some cheaper clubs under the Ben Hogan name and he'd heard some good things, so you might want to check them out too.

Buying top brand clubs doesn't have to be a £2k investment.

Check out some discount stores, american golf stores, Ebay etc...

Be careful to check who you're buying from on Ebay though - I regularly make purchases off Ebay (though as of yet, none of which have been golf orientated) and have had good experience finding cheap deals.

Also have a look for some of older range clubs... e.g. now that Ping G15s are out, the G10s will be on sale and going for much cheaper...

Good luck with the search!

Any old Ping clubs do for quality. One of the PGA Professionals invited or qualified to the PGA Championships had Ping Eye 2 irons. G5 or I5 irons are cheap used and the Ping G5 driver is a cheap quality driver. As with your putter, you like it so i guess theres no need to change that.
You play off +2 with old Dunlop clubs? You are probably the best player ever to play Dunlop clubs.

What I Play:
Wilson Mini Stand Bag | PING G10, 10.5°, Proforce V2 HL S | PING G5, 15°, 18°, Aldila NV 75 S | PING G5, 19°, Aldila VS Proto By You 80 S
Mizuno MX200 4-PW S | Ping Tour W 50/12 X | Ping Tour W 58/TS X | A selection of putters, all 35.5 inches.

You should check out GolfWorks. They will assemble any of their clubs for a small fee, and you end up getting a custom club for far less than you would pay from an OEM.

I'm not sure about the woods because I haven't played them, but I like their irons a wedges alright, especially for the very reasonable price.

BTW, I used to have the ugliest looking Goliath 3 wood, and I crushed that thing unlike any 3 wood I've owned since.

Launcher 2009 10.5º, S
Rescue Dual 16º
Rescue Dual 19º
Maltby MTF 4-pw, Rifle 5.5
Maltby M-Series 52.6, 58.8 2008 AnserOut of the bag: Big Bertha Fusion 15º, YS6+ R (for sale or trade)
